Windows 10: Updating to Windows 10

Greetings! I have a 15" 2015 HP 2015-R263dx, with 4GB of Ram, running Windows 8.1. It's not my main laptop, however, I use it to do light gaming like the Sims 3 and 4, where it performs very well. It was purchased just a few months before Windows 10 was public, and we updated it. Upon doing so, I discovered that it had many issues with Windows 10. Firstly, it had a problem with the screen flickering every 5 seconds or so, noticeably. I'm guessing that the Intel HD Graphics driver wasn't fully supported, or needed to be updated. The laptop itself has also had problems with speed on Windows 8, due to the lack of storage from old applications, program data (eg. VMs), etc. I cleaned almost everything recently and got back almost 200GB of storage on the hard drive, which made it much more enjoyable to use. With the added space, I added more Virtual Memory, boosting it from 2GB from the manufacturer, to 8-12GBs. I restarted it, and it booted in 2 minutes, and only one program has stopped responding, which was Origin, and it was finicky before, but it only crashed once. I'm debating now whether or not to update, considering the issues I had before and with my last laptop when I updated to Windows 10 becoming completely bricked beyond repair (System restore crashed every time I used it!).

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Well just noticed a pretty large one pop up coming in at 914MB, seems it makes some pretty serous updates.
