  1. Upgrade Hard Drive from 128GB to 512 GB

    Hello. . .

I am operating a Dell Inspirion 7786 with a 64 bit Operating system, x64 based processor

I am attempting to upgrade from an 128GB (filled up SUPER fast) to a 512 GB hard drive. Computer has a separate 1T storage drive.

    I have learned that I have a PCIe x 4 connection.

The current drive is a PCIe Gen3 x 4 Solid State Drive
    CL1-3D128-Q11 NVMe Liteon 128GB
    Model # CL1-3D128-Q11

This a two tab SSD. . .I would like to upgrade to an OEM 512GB HD.

It is my understanding that I have an M key with a PCIe x 4

I am trying to find an OEM 512 GB drive and not having much luck. I have found what I believe to be an OEM replacement KBG40ZNS512G Toshiba hard drive, but they don't appear to be in production. . .

I am finding a combo B+M Key drive, but finding some conflicting information as to whether or not that drive will work.

Do you know where I can purchase an OEM 512GB drive. I can find 256GB all day long, but would prefer to jump to a 512 since my 128GB filled up so fast.

Thank you for you time. . .I know very little about the workings of the computer.

    :)

  2. Overclock your hard drive!!!

Heres a much easier hack that I realized quite a few years ago that really does work!

    REQUIREMENTS:
    • Hard drive with molex power connection.
    • PSU with more than 1 strand that has molex plugs on it.
    • Wire strippers, soldering iron if you're fancy, electrical tape if you're not.
    STEPS:
    • Take the strand of connectors from your PSU, and decide which one will be the donator for this overclocking adventure.
    • Cut the yellow and orange cables, then twist them together.
    • Find the power connector you've chosen as the overclocking connector, and release the orange cable from the connector. Now use your preferred method to bind them together, then place it back together.
    • Plug in a drive and feel the speed!
Congratulations! You've just overclocked your hard drive!

  3. Creating complete backup of Inspiron 7558's 453 GB hard drive

I am considering buying either a Seagate Ultra Slim 500 GB portable backup drive or a 512 GB SD card from Amazon.com so I would have the ability to restore my computer completely if it should crash. That is, I back up everything on my Inspiron's 453 GB hard
drive and if and when it does crash at some point in the future, I simply run the computer from that disc image and continue using it as if it never crashed. The 512 GB SD card option is far more expensive, but I can simply keep it in the laptop's SD card
slot at all times and have it back up my entire hard drive daily. I'm not even sure if this is possible, but if it is, I have several specific questions about which way is better to do it.

    1. Do portable hard drives or SD cards tend to get less reliable if I had a complete hard drive backup saved and overwritten on them daily?

    2. If and when I would need to restore my laptop, is Windows 10 any more likely to act upon such a backup from either one over another?

    3. Is there any reason other than storage capacity Microsoft recommends portable backup drives over SD cards for backing up computers?

    4. Should an SD card with 512 GB of storage space last at least 36 months with a complete hard drive backup saved and overwritten daily?

    5. Is a 500 GB USB hard drive more likely to last at least 60 months with such a backup saved and overwritten daily than a 512 GB SD card?

    6. Will saving and overwriting said backup of my laptop's hard drive on a less frequent basis make it more likely either will last 96 months?
