Windows 10: Upgrade to 1809 fails with error 0x80004005-0x1000A or similar

To those getting the "Upgrade to 1809 fails with error 0x80004005-0x1000A" or similar errors, with a bad or corrupted BCD (as seen in the logs by the setupdiag.exe utility), and who do not feel comfortable doing command-line stuff to attempt to fix the BCD, there is a nice handy utility called "EasyRE" sold by NEOSMART that costs $20 and is well worth it.

It does an automatic repair, for a BCD issue, and any other system issue it finds, and fixed mine just fine. If you know what you are doing, you can use their free EasyBCD product instead. Mine upgrade fine to 1809 after running the EasyRE utility.

Here is an excerpt from the locked thread reply for the original post, by an Independent Advisor, with the external references to technical fixes, to put this into context:

Hi Joe, have you tried installing 1809 from the Windows 10 ISO?

With these major upgrades, the most successful method is to upgrade from the Windows 10 ISO - you download the ISO and then perform an Offline Upgrade

to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO (Select Create Installation Media for Another PC), then choose ISO

When the ISO file completes downloading

Then, double click it and then run Setup.exe to begin the upgrade . . .
