    Windows 10: Failed updates on notebooks from build 10074

    Build 10074 is an 'old' insider build of Windows 10 and, if it hasn't been updated, presumably you failed to activate it through your Microsoft Account, which was a requirement of the Insider Program.

    To tell you the truth builds 10061 and 10074 all suck,instead of getting better win 10 TP is getting worse , if this is gonna be this way from here on i will switch back to win 7 and forget about this win 10 tp peace of crap,not even Linux beta tests are so lousy
    not even close for a long shot,

    When upgrades fail, do a clean install. The latest build... 10074 is actually pretty darn good. Don't give up *Wink

    Upgrade to build 10074 fails

    Hi there

    I believe there are some Pre-reqs that need to be installed first -- not sure which. I had these problems but then after trying update again I had some updates including Windows defender updates and then the 10061 / 10074 updates worked just fine. Problems though AFTER install - such as menu not working etc so it is probably better to do a Clean install anyway.

    Cheers

    Nothing was helping, even going back to 10041 only after clean installation. So for this moment back to 10041.

    Clean install wont solve all issue,maybe some, i did clean install of 10074 and did the suggested work around and still don't see nothing updating

    it seems no updates are being installed cause of this; if i click to install pc wont work freezes,i uninstall these drivers but they show at the updates,and nothing else will show on the update see pic;

    Also after i do this workaround settings;

    Go to run and type gpedit.msc
    click on Computer Configuration
    click on Administrative templates
    click on System
    click on Device Installation
    click on Device Installation Restrictions
    Enabled Prevent Installation of Devices not described by other policy settings
    Uninstalled driver ticked delete driver.
    Also go to Uninstall program to remove Synaptic software.
    Reboot
    Disable or Unconfigure Device Installation Restrictions
    And install Synaptics driver ver 16.2

    i get this;see pic;

  12. This build installed for me after several hours & I eventually managed to activate 10074, but then on the subsequent boot, the system hung with a black screen, then eventually reached the desktop with no keyboard or mouse recognition.

    Quite honestly, there are so many bugs in this version of Windows, it makes you wonder if Microsoft have actually learnt anything from their development of Windows over the years!!

    Upgrade to build 10074 fails

    I've installed 10074 on 5 machines (all Dell laptops or Dell desktops, all different models). Three were clean installs and two were upgrades from Windows 7. All went through without a hitch. Immediate family members like Windows 10 and can't wait for the final release. I used a 10074 iso burned to a DVD for all of the installs. All of the installs were finished in about 2 hours.

  14. I've installed Win10 on 2 machines, both with build 10041, with clean builds no problems until upgrading.

    My custom desktop clean installed without issue and has subsequently updated itself to 10076 again without issue.

    My laptop however, would not upgrade in the first instance from Win 7 - resulting in a completely corrupt build, no way to roll back etc. I then clean installed that machine, which worked fine, but after a couple of days it too tried to upgrade itself to 10076, which again completely corrupted the build and I had to start from scratch. (Which I've done 3 times now)

    Clean installed the laptop with a fresh download of 10076 and it's working much better. Laptop is a Toshiba Portege R830

    Updating 10041 to 10074 resulted in error 1900407.
    Back to 10041 and downloaded 10074 iso
    Trying a clean install of build 10074 resulted in "No operating system" . Back to 10041, it first worked fine. And really was running 10074. After all updates I had again "missing operating system" . So I am back at build 10041.
    Added the list of updates. Anyone same experience? My laptop Asus X771 series.
