Upgrade to Windows 10 changed my programs from 64 bit to 32 bit

I upgraded a laptop that didn't have a lot of programs, because I wanted to check it out before I upgraded my other computers. Everything went pretty well, except for the fact that the upgrade seems to have changed the few programs I have on this computer to 32 bit. Specifically Dropbox, 1Password, Microsoft Onedrive, and Norton Internet Security are all showing 32 bit versions in Windows 10. I checked, and I am running the 64 bit version of Windows 10, so I'm not sure why that happened, or if it even makes a big difference.

    Thoughts?

    :)

  2. Windows 10 Upgrade

I successfully (maybe) upgrades from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 10. Somewhere in the process, I apparently erroneously called for the 32-bit version, while my computer is a 64-bit machine. The new windows runs, but some programs that used to run
just fine in 7 won't run now.

How can I change the Windows 10 version from 32-bit to 64-bit?

Can one do a free windows 10 upgrade from 32 to 64 bit (and/or 64 bit to 32 bit)?

Will the Windows 10 free upgrade permit my upgrading from windows 7 32 bit to windows 10 64 bit? Or from windows 7 64 bit to windows 7 32 bit?

Upgrade to Windows 10 changed my programs from 64 bit to 32 bit

But which version of Windows were you running before, what you Upgraded over? By default 64-bit programs installed in Windows 64-bit will show in C:\Program Files Folder and 32-bit programs will show in C:\Program Files (x86) Folder. If running the 32-bit version of Windows all programs will install in C:\Program Files. Installing a 32-bit version of Windows on 64-bit hardware will work but installing 64-bit version on 32-bit hardware will not work. Have never seen an Upgrade change the version of third-party software without reinstalling.

I was running 64 bit before, and I am running 64 bit now. Very odd. The odder part is that when I check, it clearly shows that I am running 64 bit Windows, but even when I removed and reinstalled the programs (which only took a couple of minutes) they reinstalled as 32 bit versions. Shouldn't they have reinstalled as 64 bit versions? Is there something that I missing or doing wrong?

There's 2 possibilities, many programs aren't yet available as 64-bit and it's easy to make a wrong choice on downloads when both versions are listed on the same page. There's really no restriction on installing 32-bit programs on 64-bit Windows, probably also the same exists with Mac OS X and various versions of Linux.

Problem solved....I didn't really have a problem to begin with. Dropbox, 1Password, Onedrive, and Norton Internet Security all operate as 32 bit programs natively. For some reason, I was thinking that they were 64 bit, but they are not. Upgrading to Windows 10 did not change the programs....but it did kill ICloud, but that's for another thread.
