Upgrade to Win 11 Pro from Win 10 Pro and keep local account

I agree this has nothing to do with a Windows 10 to Windows 11 upgrade. I did that a few months ago where my local account was preserved. However, for a clean install of Windows 11 Microsoft does its best to make you use a Microsoft account but you can still bypass that with the current release ISO 21H2 for Windows 11. I agree the old workarounds no longer work but the new one I used still do. I installed both Windows 11 Home and Windows 11 Pro just last week. Note I only have local accounts for each one. BTW, the next Windows 11 release, 22H2 is scheduled to be released on September 20. I will be checking it to see if the Microsoft account is required for that one. Also, a person might want to wait until 22H2 is available until they upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11.

Upgrade to Win 11 Pro from Win 10 Pro and keep local account

That apples to a clean install only. Window 10 Home already insists on setting up with a Microsoft account, so did Windows 11 Home from the launch last October. Recently MS have removed the option to set up Windows 11 Pro with a local account so that too now requires a Microsoft account for the initial set up. None of the above apply when upgrading a Windows 10 Home or Pro that is already set up with only local accounts. So if you do an in-place upgrade to 11 from your existing Windows 10 you'll have all the same accounts as you had before you upgraded, nothing added or taken away. If you really need to do a clean install of Windows 11 using just a local account, then there are some workarounds. Clean Install Windows 11 Tutorial | Windows 11 Forum

How To Upgrade Win 11 Home to Win 11 Pro w/ M365 E3 Subscription

I recently purchased a new laptop, and it came with Win 11 Home. I wouldn't normally buy a new machine with the Home edition, however, I knew my M365 E3 subscription includes Win 10/11 Pro, so I thought I'd be able to upgrade it. No so, at least not yet.

My impression was once I register the laptop using my E3 account, I would then have the option to upgrade to Pro, but that doesn't seem to be possible for me. Admittedly, I'm very likely missing something obvious, but I do need help.

Here's the Trouble (and some add'l notes): I've tried everything I can think of to make this happen and I've read countless Microsoft Docs and community questions, but I continue to hit dead end after dead end.

    Notes

    • Added work account (E3) account in Settings and ensure the laptop is registered in Azure AD.
    • Intune doesn't see the device and when I attempt to sync it with my domain, I receive an error which states, "The sync could not be initiated (0x80190190 Bad Request (400)". I feel like I'm missing a URL in a policy or need to create a policy, but I genuinely don't know.
    • I created a Win 11 Pro install w/ a flash drive. Went through the process to upgrade, but never saw what I expected to see (request to authenticate w/ 365 account).

Does anyone have step-by-step instructions to:

    1. Ensure I've done all the prerequisite steps in my tenant (registered with domain, managed by Intune if that's necessary, anything else).
    2. Upgrade it from Win 11 Home to Win 11 Pro using my E3 subscription.

All I want to do is upgrade it to Pro so I can join it to my Azure AD domain. I don't want to buy a Pro license since I'm already paying for it. That's all.

Please help. Upgrade Win 10 Pro to 11 Pro without Microsoft account :)
