Windows 10: Upgrade Windows 10 Failure With Error OX80004005 from version 1803 to 1909

If you cannot Upgrade Windows 10 with unknown error, try to do following.

In my case that was a small window with unknown unidentified error at the final step of upgrade.

I have tried to upgrade from the "Update center" in Windows, and from the USB-flash downloaded and created with MediaCreationTool installation Windows 10 media. 5 times, with cleaning, checking and other activities around notebook and Windows 10. No result.


Then I have found one thread on russian forum.



Firstly run the SetupDiag, and get a log.

I dont write exact steps how to do steps, you can find appropriate information in internet.


If you will find in SetupLog following information:

"Operation failed: Update Boot Code. Error: 0x80004005[gle=0x000000b7]"
This means, that something could be wrong with boot code.


So, the steps are:

1 Boot from external media with Windows 10 ver 1909 installation

2 Enter the Recovery Environment

3 Enter Command Line

4 Run diskpart utility, find the proper disk with BCD on it.

Rough list of commands within diskpart are check the internet!:


diskpartlis vollis dissel dis 0lis parexit


and assign


5 Assign a letter to the system/hidden disk with BCD

BCD located in directory with path GPT-markup on my disk

<Letter>\EFI\Microsoft\Boot


6 Exit diskpart, go to directory with BCD in command line, somehow:

"letter:

cd dir"

and so on


Check all steps with dir-command, where are you, on which partition


7 Enter directory with BCD not inside BCD, but in dir with BCD
and execute the commands


attrib bcd -s -h -r
ren bcd bcd.old
bootrec /RebuildBcd

Did you catch the idea? It is very simple - to rebuild BCD.


8 Thats all. Exit from command line, reboot Windows, and try to upgrade again.

Finally, I have successfully upraded from "old" Windows booted from my SSD, but I started upgrade from USB running setup.exe.

Then selected "do not check updates", "save user data and programs", and after that upgrade process did not ask me anything.


Windows was succesfully upgraded from version 1803 to 1909.

Upgrade Windows 10 Failure With Error OX80004005 (1803 to 1809)

Have been attempting to upgrade from OS 1803 to 1809 but repeatedly fails at the end and rolls back to 1803. I've tried various proposed solutions from the web but none have, so far, succeeded.

I've now discovered the SysDiag.exe tool and it shows the following summary of the error, but I've no idea how to resolve this:-

Error: SetupDiag reports down-level failure found.

Failure Data: Last Setup Phase = Finalize

Last Setup Operation = Update Boot Code

Error = 0x80004005-0x60015

LogEntry: 2019-05-09 22:52:09, Error SP Operation failed: Update Boot Code. Error: 0x80004005[gle=0x000000b7]

Any guidance on how to fix this issue would be much appreciated.

 

Unable to update Windows 10 Pro version 1709 to 1803

Have made several attempts to update Windows 10 version 1709 to the latest version 1803 and have not been successful.

I've done the following per some suggestions found online:

• Updated drivers
• Ran the Trouble Shooter for Windows 10 (Errors found were shown to be "Fixed" per the tool)
• Unplugged the printer

Although not at every attempt, I have received the following errors:

• 0xc1900101
• 0x80070643

Can someone please advise me as to what the errors are and provide me with the steps to update Windows.

No luck I'm afraid. I uninstalled Norton yesterday evening & then ran the Media Creation Tool. The process failed again with the same error at the same point. Extract of error log:-

Do you think there is any significance in the fact that I successfully loaded 1809 shortly after it was released but rolled back to 1803 after issues with the release were discovered?
