Windows 10: Upgraded from 8.1 to Win 10. Did a clean install, but now problem.

You did it all wrong, as simple as that. There is no need to do a clean install with Windows 10. Why? Because using the refresh mechanism is the same as a clean install. It was changed how it works compared to how it was in Windows 8.

Not a lot of people know about this, and it was bad publicized by MS. If you use the refresh mechanism in Windows 10, it will kick in a clean install, without keeping anything, no own files, but more important, also no drivers. It will do the same things a clean install would have done, but with keeping your Windows 10 activated.

The only disadvantage is, you have no option to change the partitions during install. So the best way, if you want to change partitions is:

1.) Install Windows 7/8
2.) During setup change partitions (keep boot and OEM partition) (or before setup) (optional)
3.) activate Windows
4.) Upgrade to Windows 10
5.) Start refresh mechanism (keep nothing option)

This also has the advantage, that you dont need a recovery partition anymore, as wanted by MS. So if your laptop or tablet came with a recovery parition, do the steps above, and youll have lots of more space afterwards.

 

I am in exactly the same position as thread starter with a new MSI laptop & can't fix.

Still not activated. Error code changes from Connect to the Internet to activate windows & 0xC004C003.

Microsoft claim known issue but not convinced.
