  1. Upgraded to Windows 10 Pro from Home Edition and lost Pro after a system recovery

I have a laptop that I upgraded to Windows 10 Pro from Windows 10 Home Edition. I recently did a restore of the system to factory settings via the Lenovo recovery app and it recovered to Windows 10 Home edition. I can't figure out how to get Windows 10 Pro back on the system. The system doesn't have a Windows Key on it like usual so entering a key (A pro key) isn't an option under "Activation".

Ultimately, I need to get back to Windows 10 Pro and can't figure out how. I don't really want to do a clean install of Windows 10 without any keys as it will wipe out the recovery partitions and I will lose the ability to even get back to Windows Home addition.

What is the best way to proceed?

    :)

  3. Can't upgrade from Windows 10 Home to Pro

    Hi Bill,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community. We apologize for the inconvenience caused and will assist you in the best possible ways.

I suggest you to download and create an installation media for Windows 10 Pro form the link provided below:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/software-download/windows10

After the installation media is created, suggest you to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro from the installation media. When the upgrade asks for product key, enter the product key purchased for Windows 10 Pro. If it does not accept, suggest you to skip the activation
step. After the Operating System is installed, suggest you to activate by phone by following the steps below:

    • Press “Windows key + R” and type “slui 4” and press Enter.
    • Select the Region from the list and click Next.
    • Call the Toll-Free number provided on top and can activate via phone.

Hope this helps. Keep us posted on the status for further assistance.

Upgraded to Windows 10 Pro from Home Edition and lost Pro after a system recovery

Recovery Drive for Windows 10 Pro.

It was, for a solid month, a tale of tears, trauma and triumph of Ten (Windows 10 that is).

After many failed attempts to download and then install and then wait for activations of Windows 10 upgrade on my Windows 8.1 Pro two laptops, I finally succeeded.

Out of abundance of caution I decided to create a recovery drive so I could do a complete reinstall of Windows 10. It took a USB drive with 16 GB to create the Recovery media (including all system files?). I have a critical question (for me i.e.).

    First consider:

    • My two laptops have different Mother Boards and processors. One has Intel while the other has AMD.
    • Both have Windows 10 Pro (activated) upgraded from Windows 8.1 Pro (genuine).
    • I created the Recovery media for the AMD machine.
    Now the questions:

    • Do I need to create two separate Recovery Media? One for each machine?
    • How do I know the Media would work when an unfortunate need arises? Meaning, how do I know if the Recovery Drive just created is any good?
Thank you for any help I can get.
