This is like a Greek tragedy or something.

I need to run Docker on my Lenovo Yoga 900 laptop. To do so I must upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, as previously I had Home installed.

Last night, I went online and purchased Windows 10 Pro upgrade for $143 after tax, and Windows started doing its thing to upgrade my installation. A few restarts later and everything seemed fine - installed Docker no problem.

Today I see the "Activate Windows" overlay in the bottom right of my screen. I attempted to use the Troubleshooter in the Activation panel, but it ran into error 0x803F7001. Getting the windows help page on this error tells me to "use the activation troubleshooter or just enter your product key." Well there is no product key given to me (as by their own admission, Windows should use online activation for online purchases), and we've seen how the troubleshooter works.

Next I try the "I changed hardware on my computer" link in the troubleshooter's "I failed" message. This gives a more verbose "Unable to Activate Windows" error, which has a link to purchase a genuine copy of Windows from the App store. Click that link, and I'm met with a lovely message saying "We're not sure how you got here, but you can't buy this version of Windows."

I search the store for Windows 10 pro, and this page now tells me that I currently have "Windows Enterprise Retail" installed on my computer. ****?

Lastly, I check my online account history and see the Windows 10 Pro purchase. The link to Windows 10 that is provided in my receipt is a broken link

To help assist me, Microsoft provided the option of a community post here or try the two toll-free numbers ; the first number simply hung up on me, and the other answered with the sounds of a fax machine.

    1. How did Enterprise Retail get installed on my machine

    2. How do I install Windows 10 Pro, like I ordered

    3. How can I fix the activation on my machine

    :)

    Windows 10 Release Date Announced

Windows 10 Home will be $119, Pro $199.

Microsoft: Windows 10 Home costs $119, Pro costs $199

Which is good news actually, because Windows 8.1 is loads cheaper than previous versions (retail licensing at Windows 7 OEM prices). And it sort of puts a huge hole in the Windows subscription theory.

  3. Clean Windows 10 (?PRO?) install

I have bought a legit "Windows 10 Pro" key of a key website. It is legit since i'm currently using it for over a year now. I currently have Windows 10 Pro installed on my PC and I want to do a clean install. I just can't find the windows 10 Pro download in the tool. But if i could use a windows 10 pro key with a normal windows 10 install, I'll be good to go.

    Clean Windows 10 (?PRO?) install

As far as I am aware there is no Windows 10 Pro version.
But I'd be happy to be wrong.
