Windows 10: Upgrading 32bit Windows 10 to 64bit Windows10 on a tablet

I have a no-name 2-in-1 tablet, x64 architecture, running OEM Windows 10 32-bit, version 1607, and as far as I have been able to ascertain, the tablet is up to 64-bit specs.. I have downloaded the ISO file for Windows 10 64-bit, version 1607, and I want to upgrade the OS. Speccy has given me the Product ID; if I install the 64-bit OS over the existing 32-bit OS, will the new version of Windows accept the existing Product ID, or will I have to purchase a new ID?

I have upgraded form wondows 7 to windows 10 and is working fine. This Windows installed is 32bit. My CPU is 64bit and I want to install 64bit WIndows 10. I don't know the product key of upgraded windows10. How can I install Windows10 64bit?

 

The same product key will work for 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 10. If you have one of the 2 GB RAM, 32 GB "hard drive" (eMMC) tablets you will probably see a decrease in performance with the 64-bit Windows 10 because the increased resources needed for 64-bit on an already resource limited computer will outweigh the performance benefits. Also, are there 64 bit drivers available for the hardware? A lot of the no-name tablets out there have manufacturer specific hardware drivers and even registry entries - so make sure you back up the drivers on the existing tablet before you do a clean install or you might find yourself having to scour third party internet sites for them - and they likely won't work with 64-bit Windows 10 anyway.

 

Tablets often are locked to the 32bit version and cannot be upgraded to the 64bit version.

However, if it allows you this reinstall the OS, you do not need to enter any product key (incidentally product id is not an install code).

You have to be certain you install correct edition (3 versions - normal, single language SL or EU N version), or it will not activate.

Also, you should make a backup of current install (macrium reflect free is only tool I know that works reliably on 32bit eufi tablets).

Note : you can only clean install. You cannot upgrade from 32bit to 64bit and keep programs or data.

I would leave 32-bit Windows 10 on it, I have both a tablet and stick computer in that situation. But I would also stick a 32 GB microSD card in there and do a full system backup with Macrium Reflect to the microSD card and export the existing drivers to it.
