  1. Upgrading 7 Ultimate 64 bit to Win10

I started this operation having a dual boot up system using two internal HD's, one running a 32 bit Win7 home addition the other a 64 bit Win7 Ultimate.

I was running Win7 32 bit on one drive which I needed to run my old version of Autocad, the Autocad is installed on an external drive. Because I had nothing of importance on this drive I did a clean install and it worked perfectly, in fact I was more than pleased with it's performance.

I wanted to upgrade my 64 bit drive to win10 64bit and I have now tried five times and each time it arrives at the welcome page and when I press next the wheel just keeps spinning and going no further. I have left it spinning for up to six hours without a result and then ended up doing a restore.

I have tried to repair via "other options" but that freezes on the select keyboard page on all of the options available, so I end up rebooting on my cd repair disk and running restore.

I have stripped the system of all add on hardware leaving just keyboard and mouse on the last three occasions.

I could obviously stay where I am BUT I feel I will gain a lot by upgrading from my experience with the 32 bit Win10.

Any advice would be very gratefully received *Smile

    :)

  3. Activation key?

I upgraded from Windows 7... Downloaded the ESD.

The Windows 7 was Ultimate 64-Bits, and from what I've seen it should go to Win 10 Pro 64-Bits when it releases.

    Upgrading 7 Ultimate 64 bit to Win10

Hi ... I would suggest first to back up your stuff, use Macrium Reflect Free and make a backup image of your Win7 Ultimate. Once you have that done I would disable both your firewall and anti-virus programs . Uninstall any old programs, better yet if possible uninstall as many programs as you can including the one for your graphic. Afterwards use windows Disk CleanUp and do such . Delete all that in the Prefetch folder . C:\Windows\Prefetch, clear out the recycling bin, do a restart of the computer and afterwards try the upgrade again

    Code: Macrium Software | 404

Yes, but you may get an error if certain files are in use by Windows. I would open This PC, right-click on the hard disk, select Properties and then click on Disk cleanup. It is safer to do that from there.

  7. I google prefetch and after studying went in and was able to delete all files, cleared the bin out, shut down AVG and installed Win 10.

Arrived at same window, top left welcome, bottom right next, click on next and I am into the oozlum bird situation once again*Sad

Now I noticed with AVG that the disable is a timed period or until restart, I selected restart as the longest period, could AVG be the problem, will I have to un-install it?

I would uninstall AVG just in case. I have seen sometime that antivirus can screw things even when disabled. You can then install it again and you are OK.
