Windows 10: Upgrading from windows 8.1 to windows 10 except I don't know what I'm doing.

I've downloaded the media tool to update and attempted to just use that a few times, I get past all the reading and whatnot and on to the restarts. After the first restart, at the bottom of the screen it says "undoing all the changes made to your PC" then my computer will start up with windows 8.1 again with an error message, I forget the whole thing but the message showed me it failed to migrate_data?

So I told one of my more tech savvy friends and he put windows 10 on a USB and told me to boot from that. Thing is, I have no idea what I am doing, I can't find any videos on how to upgrade to windows 10 from windows 8.1 all I can find is how to upgrade from windows 7 because I guess Microsoft is going to stop maintaining it or something.

I just want to know how to safely enter bios or whatever, boot from USB, and preferably not lose all my files in the process, I've already tried to do this in windows 8 on advanced startup but it didn't show me any kind of USB to boot from, just CD/DVD drive. I am too paranoid to enter bios and mess up something crucial.

Before anyone asks, my current OS is completely up to date, and I have more than 70gb of storage left on my main drive. I would have loved to not have to use a USB but for some reason the tool didn't work right then and there. Not sure why, there's space, I have a decent internet connection, I really don't know what the issue is in that regard, or if booting from a USB will help.

Windows 10 upgrade problem, no input accepted

I really hate having to come here and ask for help, but I really am stumped. It hurts my geek pride. I have a PC with fairly modern hardware in it. It has a p8p67 pro in it. I have tried upgrading windows 10 on it twice now. Both times I have had the same result.

After windows finishes upgrading it goes to the log in/set up screen. I can't do anything. No keyboard or mouse input is accepted.

I will list some, or hopefully all, of the troubleshooting steps I have tried:

• Move keyboard and mouse to different USB ports.
• Try different keyboard or mouse.
• Restart computer, repeatedly.
• Google for related issues.
• Update Bios, because why not.
• Create boot media and revert to windows 7.

The windows 10 system restore boot media works fine with keyboard and mouse. All USB ports work in windows 7. I don't know what is wrong. I suspect that windows 10 is lacking a driver of some sort, but since the computer accepts no input I have no way of checking for which driver let alone installing it.

Please help me figure this out. If I have to revert back to windows 7 again, I am not going to get it upgraded to windows 10. Thank you in advanced.

I m building a new gaming pc. Which Microsoft Os is best for gaming. I hate windows 8 but don't know for sure. Windows 7 n 10 seem good but I really don't know. So what do you experts think
