Try just disabling(suspend) the Bitlocker, but do not decrypt the drive. Re-enable once upgrade done.

Did you perhaps convert from MBR to UEFI/GPT at some point?

Plugin {ff9c714f-b864-4f43-ae39-ec07d7385abe}: Root device 'ROOT\OODISKIMAGE\0000' does not have driver.
    - This suggests you have OO Disk Image installed.
    Try uninstalling it.

    Cannot update to newer builds

Some similarities in the report. See the final post- disconnecting any other drives.

I've had this issue with my old Asus laptop which also came with Windows 8, but was eventually converted to Windows 10.

Anyway, the only way I could get any major update (TH, Anniversary, Creator) installed was by doing a clean install. Never did figure out what the issue was since nothing worked short of a complete clean install.

Here's a thought though, and something I never tried but saw a discussion on this at a later date... try connecting your system to a hardwired connection and see what happens. In other words instead of using wireless use wired and see if that helps. Worth a try with nothing to loose.

If that doesn't work and other efforts prove fruitless, you may very well wind having to do a clean install. In that case make sure you have your critical files and folders backed up.

    Good luck.

Sorry for being so silent for a while, I didn't have time for trying it again so far.
I'll try uninstalling O&O disk image and maybe some other things it's complaining about.
I've also read somewhere to unplug every device not required for making the pc work, may give that a spin as well.

I guess I did convert to GTP at some point because of bitlocker, the only way to do it is with UEFI support.sygnus21
@sygnus21 My pc is always wired to the network, I don't even use the wifi card.

    My latest log: setuperr.log

It's a lot shorter now because I tried tackeling the issues in the log.
    I did the following things:
    • Uninstalled all Microsoft SQL server stuff (I don't use it anyway)
    • Disabled bitlocker and decrypted the drive
    • Install missing drivers for some intel management device (tap6)
    • Uninstalled o&o defrag
    • Uninstalled printers
    • Unplugged non-essential usb devices

In the normal log there isn't any error reporting, only that it ends with this message:
Which would indicate a missing file (after a quick google)
In the error log we have this message:
    Maybe that's the real issue?

At least it seems like I'm getting closer to the actual solution with the error log being a lot smaller

I also received a message from Windows that the newest update is here and ready to install, but that one fails the same way as the manual installer.

I decided to upgrade to the newest bios version. It's just a single version increase and the changelog didn't mention anything about fixing this issue. I tried it anyway.

I also made sure I completely reset bios which resulted in me not able to boot into windows anymore. I got a screen saying that something changed in the uefi settings, file \bcd and error code 0xc0000098

I tried my windows usb stick, to repair the boot issue, it took a long time but no result.

I resetted uefi parameters in bios, so that they were empty. I tried the repair again which ended quickly in saying it couldn't be fixed. Tried to boot again and boom, back into windows!

I tried installing the upgrade once more through the windows update screen in the settings menu. Surprisingly it was a lot quicker than before, but unfortunately it ends in the same log, with the same issues.

I think I'm going to try and contact Microsoft because I'm not getting much more info here, nevertheless I'll keep posting updates.

  9. Steps to take:

    • In device manager disable nVidia display adapter if you have also Intel graphics there
    • Do a FULL disk Cleanup on C drive
    • In Task Manager disable ALL Startup items
    • In C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Downloads delete ALL Files and folders
    • In System Configuration disable ALL NON MS services
    • Reboot
    • In Windows defender manually update virus definitions
    • In Windows defender and all other AV apps, disable ALL AV capabilities
    • Try to Update again
    • If update succeeded, then enable AV, startup items, NVidia display adapter(should be online already) and non Windows Services you disabled.

If you need screenshots or help with any of the steps and where to find the right tool for the right job, then drop us a line. *Smile

    Microsoft comes up with this:
    Microsoft Community

Since I already tried my AV by completely uninstalling it, and I doubt that windows defender is incompatible, I guess I should try uninstalling wireless drivers and disable them in bios.

  11. Please don't make any assumptions about anything, especially regarding compatibility. Try exactly the steps I just described above. The solution or whatever one could call in that MS response is vague at best and does not really give a proper solution.

During upgrades a lot of things can go wrong and it has nothing to do with incompatibility in most cases. There are tons of Windows users here that has been upgrading Windows builds weekly on average, and they can verify what I just said.

You asked for help and I provided a solution and I suggest you follow it to the letter before wandering off doing something irreversible.

    It's your choice! *Smile

So I'm not getting anywhere with Microsoft so far, might have to give them a call eventually.
I followed all your steps as well with the same result, no change in error log or error message.
The only thing I can't do is disable my nvidia card because it's the only gpu in my system, I did uninstall the drivers though just like some time before.

Upgrading to creators update stops at 30% and reverts

So, I tried installing the new fall creators upgrade, in the end the installation failed as well but final error is different.
    First I had a 0x80070002 for WINDEPLOYNow that's a 0x80004005

    The new error log: setuperr.log

I'll try to retrace previous steps I tried already, and probably also try and fix most errors in the log
