Windows 10: Upgrading to Windows 10 Pro Edition from Windows 10 Home Edition

I currently have a license and USB Flash drive containing Windows 10 Home Edition. I'm considering doing the upgrade to Professional Edition for $99. If I perform that upgrade will I then have a new Professional product key that will allow me to perform a clean reinstall straight to Professional Edition or will I always need to install Home Edition first and then perform some sort of second step upgrade procedure to Professional Edition? As I understand it, the USB Flash contains all Editions, but its a matter of which Product key is provided during install, or at least that was how it was explained to me.


I like to occasionally reinstall my Operating system to clear out junk and possible spyware. It appears just buying the upgrade is cheaper than going out and buying the Full version of Professional since I already paid for Home Edition.

• Open Settings.
• Select Update & security.
• Click Recovery tab.

Microsoft to make Windows 10 updates mandatory

Well, at the moment at least, you can choose to defer upgrades. Under Settings > Windows Updates > Advanced options you need to check the box labeled "Defer upgrades". What does that do? Good question. The answer I've found might illuminate it to a degree.

I hear this only applies to Pro and Enterprise editions. But I can't verify that.
