  1. Upgrading Windows 10 32-bit to 64-bit

I'm currently running a Windows 10 Ultimate 32-bit and I want to upgrade it. Will I lose my files or will it be there even after the upgrade. I have a lot of important files that I can't really figure it out which one is important until I actually use it, so it'll take me days/months for me to put it in a backup.

    :)

  2. Tried twice to update from Windows 8.1 Pro 64 Bit to Windows 10 Pro 64 bit, only I get Windows 10 Pro 32 Bit

Original Title: 64 Bit Upgrade and NOT 32 Bit!

I tried twice to update from Windows 8.1 Pro 64 Bit to Windows 10 Pro 64 bit, only I get Windows 10 Pro 32 Bit! Can't the upgrade process know that my version of Windows 8.1 Pro is 64 Bit and upgrade it to that? I can't use 32 Bit Windows 10 Pro!

Is your laptop 32 bit CPU or 64 bit . If your laptop is a 32 bit you will be unable to run Windows 10 64 bit. The reason I ask is that you upgraded from a 32 bit Windows 7 to 32 bit Windows 10. If it is 64 bit you can run a 32 bit

version of Windows but not the other way.

    Upgrading Windows 10 32-bit to 64-bit

There is no Windows 10 Ultimate, do you mean you have Windows 7 Ultimate now ? If you have a 32 bit computer, it must be a few years old that may not be compatible with 10. Before ANY upgrade, I would backup ALL your files and decide later what to delete vs trusting an Upgrade to keep your files, even if you select that option.

Yeah, as in Post #2, there is no such thing as Win 10 Ultimate. The common choices are Home and Professional. If you upgraded Win 7 Ultimate to 10, you'd receive Pro.

It is not permitted to upgrade a 32 bit OS to a 64 bit one. You'd have to do a clean install. With that, you'd wipe everything on the OS partition.

The good news is that your Win 10 license would be equally valid with a 64 bit version.

Why would it take you days or months to backup your data? You should already have a separate backup device. If you use an external HD, you wouldn't choose what files to backup: you copy all files (not the OS or applications). You could also image the existing OS partition, and restore it should something go wrong.
