Windows 10: USB does not recognise external drives in USB 2 & 3.

USB does not recognise external drives in USB 2 & 3. In a partitioned drive it only shows one partition. With thumb drives it works okay.

I posted this last week but I was hit by scammers, that`s why I`m posting again. Thanks in advance.

USB 3 Drive external drive dissapears after reboot

Yeah I kinda want to have it as an external drive so I can swap it between my rigs... but have it constantly plugged in as if it were an internal drive.

Googling this issue it seems very common with USB 3 drives so I'm doubtful its an issue with the drive itself:

Can you confirm all is well in Device Manager?
Might help someone to help you if you complete your system specs (see Tutorial section for a 'how to')
Your problem sounds more general than some have experienced given the types of drive you've tried.

Can you confirm your PC is listed as being Win 10 compatible?
Please post a screenshot of disk management with a non-recognised drive plugged in. (diskmgmt.msc)

Thanks for this. I've done what you suggested and been through all the steps mentioned in the article. The hard drive works fine on a Mac computer, and I've managed to copy the information on it. It must be a Surface issue so I'll try to get a chat line tomorrow.
