Windows 10: USB Drive Errors "Please insert a disk into USB Drive D:" and has no media

let's keep this quick for everyone's time, I have a usb drive and when I was downloading files to it my laptop died and when I booted it back up and plugged my usb drive in it wouldn't show up in file explorer and I've been trying to fix it for around an hour with no luck

Hi,

It seems that your USB is having an issue. We suggest running Check Disk to find and repair errors in the USB drive. To do so, please follow the steps below:

• Press Windows key + X and then select Command Prompt (Admin).
• Copy and paste chkdsk E: /f, then hit Enter.

Please use chkdsk E: command to check the integrity of your USB drive.

Note: Change "E:" to the USB drive letter you're using.

Let us know the result.

i updated my computer and updated windows as the hardware troubleshooter suggested and that did not work

i tried diskpart and tried going through disk management as admin it does let me pick to change as the above pics show and i have windows 10 64 bit the usb is a monster digital 16gb usb

Hi although I know it states OneDrive does not support an external hard disk. I run out of space of my windows11 laptop internal hard drive and brought an external Hard Drive a couple of years ago.

This has been synchronising perfectly well with my laptop ever since until last night. When horror struck and I got the message please insert a disk into USB Drive (D

My external drive is designated E: not D:

If I cancel the error message, I can still view all my files on external hard drive via the file explorer and photos app. (Well, this is except a few recent photos I have added via my phone (photos) using the share to OneDrive option). So, it would appear my external drive is healthy but no longer synchronizing with Onedrive.

I have tried the option of not having the external drive connected when I start-up the laptop but still get the error message.

I realise I have provided scant details here but would be happy to provide more detail if required. I would really be happy if somebody in the community can assist. I can normally sort out pc issues myself but uncertain how to start on this one. Many thanks
