  1. USB External Drives (3 different types) no longer working

Windows 10 x64 (up to date) here.

    MSI X570 Carbon Wifi

    Ryzen 3700X

    GTX 1080ti

I have three different external USB drives which are suddenly no longer working.

-1 WD My Book 2TB (keeps restarting, disconnects/reconnects as soon as you connect the USB)

-1 SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD 128 (appears in device manager with a little "problem" icon, impossible to update drivers or anything)

    -1 external USB-C NvMe drive.

I tried these devices on my laptop, they work without issue.

I tried every USB port, no succes

I uninstalled the USB controller hosts in the device manager and restarted, no succes.

I checked the Windows power-options, they are not in power saving mode

    etc....

I first thought it was a motherboard problem, but then I added a PCI USB 3.0 card with two extra ports, and I get the same problem with all the drives.

So, now, I believe it's Windows related, especially after updating yesterday!

    Anyone else had this problem?

PS: I just tried with a regular SanDisk USB pen-drive, same problem.

    :)

  3. External drive

    Hi Richard,

There are several factors that can cause your external drive to not read DVDs even though the system is recognizing the device. This could be caused by a driver that needs to updated or corrupted files. For us to resolve your concern, kindly answer the questions
    below:

    • Just to confirm, the device that is not working properly is a external DVD optical drive?
    • Were there any recent changes or updates installed on your computer?
    • Have you tried to plug the external drive to a different port on your computer?

As a initial recommendation, we suggest that your run the built in troubleshooter in Windows 10. Kindly refer to the steps below:

    • Type “Troubleshooting” in the Search bar and press Enter.
    • Click on “View All” in the top left corner.
    • This will display the list of troubleshooters which are built-in in the computer. You can click on
Hardware and Devices from the list and you can run the troubleshooter.

This will check for common errors that affect hardware on your computer and attempts to correct them.

We look forward to your response after completing the steps.
