Windows 10: USB keyboards not working in Windows 11. PS/2 keyboard works, and USB keyboards work in BIOS.

New work computer given to me, but it was given to me with a PS/2 keyboard. I use the Windows key for everything, but the only keyboard at work that would work with this computer is a PS/2 keyboard. Plugging any other USB keyboard won't type and/or light up at all. USB keyboards only work within the BIOS. We don't have IT since we're a small local shop.All my attempted fixeslugging any other USB keyboard won't type and/or light up at all. Which is better for keyboards: USB or PS/2?

PS/2 always works. I've never met a PS/2 keyboard/computer (that had a PS/2 jack) that didn't work. I've had a lot of USB hiccups though--especially related to accessing the BIOS.

I used to use a PS/2 + VGA KVM but have moved to DVI + VGA + USB + Audio KVM. The KVM is the only reason why I switched to USB. I still often have to break out the PS/2 keyboards though for ornery computers (e.g. good luck getting USB to work on a Windows 95 computer).

 

USB keyboard and mouse not working only PS/2 works

I decided to reset my PC and keeping my files.But after I reset it when I turned it on, my USB mouse and keyboard didn't work for me. But in the BIOS settings they did work. Then I decided to use a PS/2 mouse and they did work. Methods I already used are: switching USB slots, resseting my PC again, using a different USB mouse and keyboard(didn't work), I turned off digital signature I tried safe mode but it still didn't work. I tried searching in my device manager but my mouse and keyboard drivers didn't show up. I have a Dell PC and my BIOS version is A14. Can you guys send some help? Do I need to reinstall windows for it to work?

 

Stuck without PS/2 keyboard...

Buy a cheap PS/2 keyboard. I'd say the lion's share of USB keyboards often aren't initialized until after the BIOS options are past. USB, therefore, is useless in trying to access the BIOS menus. PS/2 always works without fail.

If you know someone that hordes old computers, they might have a few PS/2 keyboards they will let you have for free or cheap.
