  1. USB locked "Read Only" after making to active (boot) drive in Win10

Have tried many suggestions to clear this.

Using DISKPART can clear read only for files but drive remains "Read Only"

    DISKPART> lis dis

Disk ### Status Size Free Dyn Gpt
    -------- ------------- ------- ------- --- ---
    Disk 0 Online 476 GB 0 B *
    Disk 1 Online 931 GB 1024 KB
    Disk 2 Online 238 GB 1024 KB
    Disk 3 Online 60 GB 3116 MB

    DISKPART> select dis 3

Disk 3 is now the selected disk.

    DISKPART> attrib dis
    Current Read-only State : Yes
    Read-only : No
    Boot Disk : No
    Pagefile Disk : No
    Hibernation File Disk : No
    Crashdump Disk : No
    Clustered Disk : No

    DISKPART>

USB does not have a physical switch for read only.

Olny seems to happen when using Win10 to make a bootable disk.

Makes it impossible to reuse disk.

If you run the "Clean" function in Diskpart you get an I/o error. (error 153)

    :)

    Boot linux on USB drive

it might just be that your bios doesn't support it, but it should anyway.

make sure you go into the bios and make sure "boot other device" is enabled and try seeing if the usb is listed as an hdd.. as bootable flash drives are usually picked up as usb hdd's and check if your bios detects the flash drive.

Installing windows off of a USB stick

    Step By Step from vista:
    From admin cmd prompt

    1. diskpart
    1a. list disk
    2. select disk 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
    3. clean
    4. create partition primary
    5. select partition 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
    6. active
    7. format fs=fat32
    8. assign
    9. exit

Copy Windows Vista's DVD ROM content to the Flash Drive

xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f e:\ (d being your vista cd and e being your usb stick)

And that's it, boot off your usb disk

USB locked "Read Only" after making to active (boot) drive in Win10

    USB boot for bios update

Did the first step. It already doesn't work. Note the capacities and drive letters M:/N: The HP utility is about to format my raid-1 volume containing my 2 750gb drives. It thinks it's the usb stick. I can not select any other drives in the HP utility. My 512mb usb stick is U:.

    Any other suggestions?
