USB Mass Storage Device Shown But is Inaccessible.

So I've been using this USB perfectly fine for months, and today I plugged it in once again, expecting it to work perfectly fine. However, I noticed no prompt appeared when it was plugged in. I thought it was weird but no big deal, I'll just go into the File Explorer and open it manually.

So now I'm concerned there's something wrong with the usb port, so I unplug my drive and plug it into a different USB. No response. I try a different laptop all together, and it shows up with a device setup for it, but when it's done the same thing happens, I can't access the files.

At this point I'm certain there's an issue with the drive itself so I go into Devices in the Control Panel and..

It's there, listed as the Mass Storage Device to be sure I unplugged it, it disappeared, I plugged it back in, it reappears. This is my USB. I decide to Troubleshoot, but it can't detect any problems with the device. I try updating the drivers, but they're already up to date. I try uninstalling and reinstalling the device and usbs in the device manager, restarting and letting my Laptop reinstall them automatically upon the reboot, but it doesn't work. I've tried accessing the files through here, right clicking the mass storage device, going into "browse files", but the option to select USB Drive E: is greyed out, so I can't select it.

At this point I take to the internet, hoping SOMEONE has a solution.

I see the suggestion to go into disk manager and see if it's listed there, but it isn't.

    Now I'm completely lost.

TLDR: My USB Mass Storage Device is detected in the Device section of the Control Panel, but nowhere else. I cannot access it in any way, and I have tried troubleshooting, restarting and updating/reinstalling the drivers. Nothing has worked. At this point I just want to get my files from this USB and replace it.

    :)

how to change "USB attached SCSI mass storage device" to "USB mass storage device"

    Hi there:

I have a Seagate USB portable drive and I mainly use it to connect to my ASUS Oplay! media player to watch the content on TV.

This device use to be an USB mass storage device.

Recently, I noticed whenever I eject my seagte portable drive, the device is showing as ""USB attached SCSI mass storage device" instead of a regular "USB mass storage device". This is when my media player stopped recognising the portable drive (showing
the device is not supported). The portable drive works fine on my Windows 10 PC, just not recognising by my media player anymore.

Wondering if anyone can point out how I can restore my portable hard drive back to a generic USB mass storage device instead of being a "USB attached SCSI mass storage device".

    Thank you.

"USB attached SCSI mass storage device" naming/labeling error

    Hello everyone,

I was fiddling around with formatting one of my USB flash drive and for some odd reason, whenever I disconnect the flash drive it's now displaying "USB attached SCSI mass storage device" instead of "USB Mass Storage Device".

Here is the driver being installed for my flash drive at the moment:

Under normal circumstances, it should look something like this instead:

I've tried uninstalling this "SCSI" driver via device manager however, when I connect the same USB again, it'll show the same thing. I also tried installing the new driver for it though, it doesn't display the usual USB mass storage device anywhere on the list. When I install "Disk Drive" (as shown below), it'll install the SCSI driver, not USB Mass Storage Device driver.

All in all, how do you fix this naming/labeling problem of USB? I couldn't find anyone else having this problem except for one person, who has posted the exact same issue years ago: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...6-0fe3c3aeba93
Yet, the thread didn't end with solutions so I'm lost as to what I need to do next in order to fix this problem.

Thank you and I greatly appreciate your help. I've been searching answers for hours and it's driving me nuts at the moment...
