Windows 10: USB microphone suddenly recording a tapping noise

I've been using my current computer for about three years without issue, Windows 10. Yesterday however, I could no longer use speech recognition going through a USB microphone. Finally figured out what the problem is when I tried testing the microphone using the Windows voice recorder. When I tried to record my voice, the audio recorded was my voice as well as an equally loud tapping noise. I tried using the microphone on three of the different USB ports on my computer, both 3.0 and 2.0 USB produce the same problem. Any idea what could be causing the loud tapping noise?

In order to help you better, could you please confirm a couple of things:

1. What is the make and model of your computer?

2. What is the make and model of micro phone?

I suggest you to follow the below methods and check if it helps.

Method 1: I suggest you to run the hardware troubleshooter and check the issue status.

• Press “Windows key + X” and go to “control panel”.
• Type “Troubleshooter” in the Search box and hit enter.
• Select “Hardware and Sound” from the Troubleshooter Window.
• Select “Hardware and Devices” under Devices option.
• Follow the On Screen instructions.

Method 2: You may try connecting the USB microphone with other devices to check whether the issue is with microphone or the device it connected to.

Also update the latest audio drivers from the manufactures website for Windows 10 and check if it helps.

[URGENT] USB microphone record noise

Hello,

I got new usb microphone yesterday.When i try the record a sound its recording but my voice a lot of noice. I google it and i have no answers actually.

My motherboard is gigabyte and its use realtek hd audio. My drivers updated,im pretty sure.

Some peoples in forums says: open recording devices > right click your microphone and go properities > click enchancments tab > make sure all boxes are selected

its fine but there is no enchancments tab in properities section.

any help will be great, thanks

 

Better microphone noise suppression in Windows 10?

Having acquired a new and supposedly good microphone (ModMic), I noticed that I'm still hearing a lot of noise in the recording - about as bad as with my old cheap microphone. I now think the reason is the quality of the sound card (it's the on-board sound card on Asus Z170 PRO GAMING motherboard). For the record, I hear very similar results from both microphone ports (front and rear). My microphone boost setting is at zero and the gain is at 100%, but I also tried different settings with similar results.

I tried to use two noise suppression tools:

1. The "Noise suppression" checkbox in Microphone Properties -> VoizReal Exp tab. This helps, but some background noise remains and it seems the voice is clipped.
   
2. The "Noise suppression" filter in OBS Studio. This works much better. No noise remains, and the voice quality is comparatively good.
   

The question is is it possible to apply a filter like (2) system-wide and not just in OBS Studio.
