Windows 10: USB ports not working after Oct 4th, 2019 update

Hi y'all this is Jim from down South, though I'm not from here. I've spent all day trying to gt my USB ports to recognize that there was something plugged into them, a mouse, keyboard, any thing, after the automatic update that happened on the 4th of October, 2019.

I did All the things that have been done since 2015. I changed the power settings of automatic sleep when not in use, the power settings of fast startup, deleted all the drives and reinstalled them, went through the power supply and cut-off the AC power, un-docked my battery; then I even upgraded my BIOS ( still don't know how to upgrade the SMBIOS).

I have an Asus k55A laptop running windows 10, with an i5 CPU, a 4000 video card, and 8 GIGs of ram.

I was looking at the system at the end of the day, and several favorite drinks, when I saw the "intel 7 chipset drivers there as well as in the usb section below, well it seemed like a good idea.

It's late now and i'm going to bed. I had already downloaded the intel 3.o driver from the intel website, as well as the intel driver support & setup utility, and other stuff.

Updating the system driver for the intel 7 chipset seemed to do the trick, maybe it will help someone else. Now I can look forward to tomorrow, to do what I'd wanted to do today, possibly with some more choice beverages.

USB Port Oddities


Ok, let's see it with pictures step-by-step. First right-click on the USB device and select Update driver software:





Then select Browse my computer for driver software (LAST option) :





The select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer (LAST option) :





Then select the standard driver from the list and click next:





Click next/OK as required to complete installation. Repeat the steps for all Intel USB devices. Finally click on each USB root device and press DEL to delete it, reply YES when asked. After deleting all USB root devices restart the computer.

Step 1: I suggest you to check if there are any drivers with exclamatory mark in Device Manager.

• Press Windows + X keys from the keyboard, click on
  Device Manager.
• Check for the drivers with exclamatory mark in yellow triangle.
• If so, right click on the driver, click on Properties
  and check the device status.
• Also, try to update the drivers by click on Update driver software
  under Drivers tab in Properties window.

Step 2: I suggest you to run Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.

Hardware and Devices troubleshooter
checks for common problems and makes sure that any new device or hardware connected to your PC is installed correctly.

• Press Windows key from the keyboard, type
  Troubleshooting and select it.
• Click on view all option on the upper left corner of
  Troubleshooting window.
• Select the Hardware and Device
  options from the list.
• Click Next to run the
  Hardware and Device Troubleshooter.
