Windows 10: USB ports not working in windows 10

I upgraded recently from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Everything was fine then this weekend I couldn't get my old HP LaserJet 1200 printer to work. I tried several drivers from the HP website but to no avail. Then on Monday night I installed Nero 9 on my pc. I had to do this because when I upgraded from Windows 7 to 10 it didn't want to proceed unless I uninstalled Nero 10.


Everything was looking fine until my mouse stopped working. I tried several things like uninstalling the device and restarting but nothing I tried worked. Sometimes after I restarted, the mouse would appear on the screen but it would not move. Other times after I restarted it would not even appear. I'm using a PS2 keyboard and I suspect that is the only reason I'm still able to operate my pc at this stage.


I did some searching on the internet and decided that my only other option is to format and reinstall Windows 10. I did that but to my frustration it still did not fix my problem.


When I go to device Manager it still gives me the error under one of my USB devices:

"unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor request failed)"


I'm very frustrated at this stage since I don't know what else I can try. I've tried another mouse and usb keyboard but the pc doesn't pick it up at all. Also my usb external drive does not register when I plug it into any of my pc's usb ports.


I've also run all updates so there is more updates that I can install.

Please help me!!!!!!

USB port not working

I have an HP Pavilion dv6604nr laptop. I have 3 USB ports, 2 located on the left side and one located on the right side near the power supply port. For some reason, one of the USB ports on the left hand side will not recognize anything that is plugged
into it. I have done all the steps and suggestions that is posted on this site, and still can't get it to work. The message I get is "The last USB device that was connected has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it." It shows in the Device Manager
as Unknown USB Device(Port Reset Failed). When I have a USB device plugged into the non-working port, it shows up in the Devices and Printers folder, but the device does not work. I am at my wits end. Can anyone help me or suggest any other things to try?
Oh, I am running Windows 10 pro.

 

USB Port Oddities


Ok, let's see it with pictures step-by-step. First right-click on the USB device and select Update driver software:





Then select Browse my computer for driver software (LAST option) :





The select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer (LAST option) :





Then select the standard driver from the list and click next:





Click next/OK as required to complete installation. Repeat the steps for all Intel USB devices. Finally click on each USB root device and press DEL to delete it, reply YES when asked. After deleting all USB root devices restart the computer.
