    USB wireless network adapter unstable

    Hi,

I recently brought a new wireless network adapter for usb (Asus usb N14) and since I've started using it the connection is really unstable, I'm on the same connection on my iphone and it's just fine but on my pc it's really struggling, I've ran speed tests and it'll work fine when randomly it'll just go down, I'll still be connected to the router but have no internet. Right now looking at the wifi graph in task manager it literally going straight up for a few seconds then straight back to 0 when downloading a file, and I'm unable to download any large files because it'll just fail after about 30 seconds.

I've updated it to the latest version with no change in performance or reliability.

One other thing I'm at Uni so other people will be using the connection and I've no access to the router unfortunately.

If anyone could help with this problem I'd be super greatful as I literally have no experience with wifi, always been wired before uni.

    Thanks.

    :)

    Needing to reset wireless adapter

Try with some kind of USB Wireless adapter to connect to your network.

Also first, instead of buying USB Wireless adapter, try to do a system restore.

  3. Wireless Adapter Unstable

Once I am able to establish a connection, the PC will remain connected the rest of the day with no problems. I have tested over the last three days.

However, establishing the connection after the PC powers on for the first time for the day requires multiple restarts, disabling of the wifi adapter, network troubleshooting, disconnecting and reconnecting with the network.

The network is stable, there are multiple other devices including an asus laptop running win 10 that do not do this. I have the most current drivers per Edimax support as well.

I can't tell which step is actually fixing the connection as it seems to be different every time. I get a variety of errors from host not resolving, to proxy server not found, to gateway not found, to no internet connection, to unable to connect to the
network. The answer seems to be just keep disconnecting and reconnecting, disabling and enabling, over and over for an hour until it suddenly starts working. Then it works for the rest of the day until the PC is powered down again.

The first thing I'd do is go to Control Panel, Power Options and change settings so the USB ports are not being turned off by Windows, might even change settings for Sleep and Hibernation [I've seen issues with both of those].

As for "I've no access to the router unfortunately" you may be able to find an open HotSpot such as the library, a restaurant, etc., for testing your settings, don't need direct access to the Router's settings.
