  2. I'm right back to where I was. It did the "configuring for update" thin, rebooted, aand then its back to telling me "Updates are available" and
Did this requested restart 3 times in a row with no discernible changes. looking at the even logs and system and setup logs I dont see anything with an error at the proper time.

    Im at wits end

Do you have this folder on your root drive in C: C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\Panther\setuperr.log

    Check this...
    1. Type services.msc in RUN or Start search box and press Enter. It'll open Services Manager.
    2. Now make sure following services are set to Automatic and running properly:

    • Automatic Updates OR Windows Update
    • Background Intelligent Transfer Service
    • Server
    • Workstation
    • TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper
    • IKE and AuthIP IPsec Keying Modules
If any or all of the above mentioned services are not running or not set to Automatic, double-click on the service, set its Startup type to Automatic from the drop-down list, Apply the changes and click on "Start" button to immediately start the service.
