Use Office 2010 on New Windows 10 Computer

I am very happy running Microsoft Office on my Windows 7 desktop. I only use Word and Excel.

I got a new Windows 10 desktop and it came with a Key for Office 365. I installed it, but I really don't want to learn the new versions of Word and Excel.

Can I get or buy Word and Excel 2010 and install them?
    Then uninstall Office 365?

    Thanks, cb

    :)

    Windows 10 Office 2010

My question just the opposite of most questions concerning Office 2010 and Windows 10. Most of those questions deal with Office 2010 after upgrading an existing system to Windows 10. Mine is the opposite: You have a new computer with Windows 10 installed
and Office 365 trial and apps installed. I have Office 2010 Pro. I would like to install Office 2010 Pro on the new computer. Question is: Should Office 365 trial and apps be removed or uninstalled prior to installing Office 2010? What is the correct procedure
for installing Office 2010 in this type of situation?

    Thanks.

  3. Office Compatibility pack does not work with Windows 10 using Office 2003

In Windows 10 I am using Office 2003. I have downloaded & installed Office 2003 SP3 & the Office Compatibility pack. I get the message when trying to read extensions created by office 2010 "this file created by a newer version of Office". I also had installed
Office 2010 on my new computer that I had on my old computer which I tried to license it & used for 30 days & they took the use away so I uninstalled it. So what is wrong with my new downloads not working? My guess is when they took the use away of Office
2010 they installed a front end program that puts out the above unable to read message & the uninstall of Office 2010 did not delete it? Please need help with the Fix.

Did you upgrade to Windows 10? Or did you buy Office 2010?

Microsoft says I have to buy it from 3rd party sellers. A lot of people who bought it from Amazon had a lot of trouble installing and activating it.

    Thanks, cb

    Hi there

I'd suggest you try this : (Before starting take a backup of your NEW system -- Free macrium is fine for this). Take the backup just in case things get hosed up - that way you can revert back to the New desktop OS before any changes described here are made.

    1) on OLD PC - take image of W7 system.

    2) On NEW PC restore image of W7 --Macrium can restore to NEW hardware for most drivers.

    3) Let the W7 find appropriate drivers -- Don't activate the W7 system - W7 lets you run for 30 days without activation.

    4) Now upgrade to W10 - Office won't ask for activation usually - but if it does it will probably activate. The W10 system *might* ask you for a key --if it does then enter the W7 (Windows - not the Office 2010 ) one - as of yesterday (Mon 14 Feb) updates from older OS'es were STILL working !!!!.. Let W10 find missing drivers from W7 etc.

    5) If you still can't activate - activate by phone -- 999 times out of 1000 there's never a problem -- Ms only gets involved if it suspects too many activations or something suspicious --otherwise it's all handled quickly by "Robots" -- no endless waiting time in those hideous call centres - it's 100% automatic.

The only caveat is if your old W7 was an OEM version rather than retail.

If you've still got the Office 2010 install media then of course you can try that -- again you'll probably have to activate by phone.

    Cheers

Use Office 2010 on New Windows 10 Computer

Office 10 is quite old, actually is Office XP [also known as Office 2002]. I have Office 2007 on one computer, Office 2010 on another computer and Office 2013 on my main computer. I have even installed Office 2000 on a computer running the Insider Preview version of Win10, all the basics work fine but haven't tried Outlook, assume it may give me the most trouble.

This is an awful lot of trouble. All OP really has to do is (I did the same) is to extract his Office 2010 key from old PC using produkey (assuming retail copy as most are), install 2010 on new pc (downloads available from MS), and activate with extracted key. Of course, OP will need to remove it from old pc.

If this does not work, then try your approach.

I think you misinterpreted OP's post - OP says Office 10 in tite but refers to 2010 in main post - probably just a simple typing error in title. Of course 2010 works fine.

  11. I had it previously installed on my Windows 7 machine, which I then upgraded to Windows 10.

One thing that I have forgotten to mention is that a couple of Windows updates have broken Excel for a short time, but they were quickly fixed. I don't know if this was unique to Office 2010 or just a quirk in Windows 10, but over all, I have had no real issues running Office 2010 on Windows 10.

Also, one of the guys in the office did a reinstall of Windows 10, and then installed his copy of Office 2010 with no hiccups, and all of the Office updates went in fine. I don't think you'll have any problems.

It sounds like you are saying that I can use a Product Key from Office on one computer and it can be used to transfer Office to a different computer.

I have a trial version of Office Starter on a laptop I rarely use and never updated it to the full version. I will see if it has a product Key that I can use on my Windows 10 desktop.
I am also going to try using Word 365 and just do the functions I need without using the newer stuff.

Yes, you can install and activate Office 2010 on a new computer but it may then decativate on the old one if your licence is only for one PC. My Office 2010 licence covers 3 PCs.
