Windows 10: user using OneDrive on computer receives Error 0x80070781 - the name of the file cannot be...

On a PC with multiple users, there is one user that is receiving this error trying to copy files when logged into their account. I have tried SFC /scannow multiple times. The first time reported and fixed a problem with a .NET dll, but it's been clean since. The disk scans clean with chkdsk.


The only thing special I can see about this user account is that they are setup using Protect All Your Folders using OneDrive, and the copies being attempted are copies from one place into the directory structure. In particular, trying to copy files from another internal drive into their "Documents" folder, when their Documents folder is protected by OneDrive.


Other users do not have this problem copying files into their OneDrive folders, so I tend not to think it is system-wide corruption or hardware level corruption like bad sectors. I tried to pause syncing OneDrive before doing the copy, but that had no effect. So folders I can copy and some give me the error.


Is there a way to fix this?

The error message 0x80070781 you received are possibly due to system files corruption or missing, hard disk errors or bad sectors, the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.

I cannot sign in to the Microsoft Store because I receive an error 0x80070781. The troubleshooter detects sync error and also a root cause error.
