Microsoft suddenly decides not to offer Windows 10 November update via Media Creation Tool

People won't like that at all including me. That means they just killed being able to use your windows 7 or 8.1 key for a clean install unless they updated the old Media creation tool to accept windows 7 & 8.1 keys. At least, I still have the iso created from the newer media creation tool. I also saved the media creation tool but don't know if it will work.

    Looks like I was correct

  2. I haven't read all of this thread - just bits and pieces every couple days - so I have missed a lot, but I haven't seen anybody complain about the contents of TH2. All the complaints I've seen have been about have been about installation of the maintenance via Windows Update. And the Media Creation Tool got around those problems. So Microsoft has eliminated the reliable option and says we need to use the flaky one.

I've installed TH2 on a seldom used PC - the only one running Win10. I wonder what wonderful new behavior I'm going to eventually see because of this maintenance.

And I wonder it it is eventually going to be available again through the MCT once the maintenance is safe.

I doubt they'll offer TH2 via the MCT any time soon and they might drop that option totally from now on. As far as I can tell I haven't had any issues with the build once it's installed.

Keep in mind you can still create an ISO from the ESD that's downloaded during the update process and do a clean install. I don't think that option will be removed. The only thing that's changed is that TH2 is not available via the MCT anymore.

    Hi,

That's exactly my point. Sure it's still not perfect but basically it is good enough as is which makes MS decision all the more mysterious.
Guess we'll have to wait to see some explanation although I very much doubt MS will reveal their precise reason(s) for their action.

  6. Man this sucks. I have a computer that upgraded fine but had some Lenovo software error issues. I just bought an SSD today to replace the HDD and wanted to do a clean install, but I don't have the ISO. I don't want to install 10240 and update again, I wanted to install from the update. FML. I guess now I should wait to see WTF is going on?

Just upgraded a friend's win 7 laptop using the MCT drive I created earlier so now wonder whether I did him a favour or not.

Then there are the three updated here. All are running well, though.

Can't do anything but wait it out, I guess, but we are surely owed some sort of explanation asap.

I know it's a long shot, but I hope this means Microsoft is nipping the new build stuff in the bud completely. New builds are a bizarre, flaky method that was never very reliable in the past and isn't now, either.

Most of the articles written on blogs, news sites and the like say this is utterly confusing.

It makes absolutely no sense to pull the update via windows update if that's the method they want to use, I've never seen such a confused Microsoft, especially as just a few days ago they were recommending that people download the TH2 ISO to do a clean install. The 'Roll out' excuse is nonsense it had been there for a week, why the staggered approach now ?

Hopefully more news will leak out, Microsoft have a habit of only admitting things once they are exposed.

I'm sure there will be ISO's out there, ask a friend perhaps if they downloaded and burnt one, also many on the net (but make sure its from a trusted source)

My laptop, (Dell Latitude E6400) W10 Pro upgraded to TH2 no problem with WU, my desktop W10 Home won't do it, to those who got TH2 via WU and installed/w no problems good for you, wish it would've went that way for me.

There are quite a few comments about using MCT, iso, clean install, etc... Microsoft intended for W10 to be updated/upgraded through windows update, I could upgrade to TH2 with an iso but I'm not doing it, MS needs to fix their update/upgrade system to handle a basic task such as windows update.

Many users don't have the knowledge or the desire to do what most on TF can do, if the upgrades can't be done via WU then most users won't get them.

I've seem some posts by users that have been banned, those posts' seem to be frustration at not updating as W10 advertised. Then to have other much more experienced members post giving the impression that somehow it's that user's fault that their upgrade failed, that, to me is an insult. It may be that user, but since the upgrade was pulled by MS they've admitted something was wrong on their end.

It was posted "1% made a lot of noise so MS pulled the update" lets be realistic, if only 1% of user were having problems nothing would have been done by MS.

There were problems getting this build through windows update, that cannot be denied. There may be no problems with the build itself, but to post that there aren't problems and then fault the users makes one appear to be in denial of the obvious.
