MS should just offer a plain jane, vanilla OS at a lower price and then offer additions like AERO, etc. to those who want to purchase them for a nominal cost.

Jeff Which do you prefer to be called BunnyJ or Jeff?

The problem with that Jeff, is 3rd parties could offer Aero cheaper or free.

  7. Wouldn't simply turning off features by default like transparent glass be more of a way to give people options and not have additional versions to distribute and maintain ?
We are talking about 1 feature of aero not several which do not exist in win-10 as it is
Compare your advance system settings/performance with 7 you'll notice only 1 is missing,
    Cheers.

It seems to me, that the very fact that this is a topic, and that so many people have requested it, that Microsoft should simply make it available, why would they choose not to put it in?

  9. Microsoft is still thinking more about mobile devices and battery life,
If the option exist people are likely to use it *Smile

The thing with having Aero present to turn on or off, means that it is still taking up space on the disk. I would prefer to have the option to either install it, or not have it present at all. And so what if third party vendors offer it? The complaints I've heard about that are the third party stuff isn't as good as what MS had with W7, and if that is true, then most users would probably purchase the MS version.

How much space on disk are we talking about.

  12. I doubt one aero feature is going to be much of a space hog :/
Besides I would rather Windows handle any base for which any third party would write a third party theme for and not have that third party write from scratch *Wink

All of the sliding and fading aero stuff takes up way more space than glass would *Smile
Not to talk about all of the wasted time it takes all of that sliding and fading to function *Wink

Well, if everyone is so concerned about disk space, battery life, etc., why not remove Metro and tiles entirely. Let's remove any theme possibilities, heck let us just have a white screen and text, we will call it the DOS view.

I find arguments like this next to meaningless. In today's computing world I would like to see the actual data on battery life. The amount of disk space is negligible, I can certainly think of a lot of other things that could be removed to reduce space.

Absolutely right. In the days of Terabyte disks, disk space is really the last argument that would convince me. If I look around this room, I have probably 5 or 6TBs lying around. So I really do not worry about disk space.

It's not actual disk space I'm talking about. I have plenty of that. It's the bloat that is incorporated into the Windows OS. There are features, like AERO, One Drive, etc. that I don't want. I like a lean OS that will run lightening quick on my SSD and that I can create system images in just a few seconds. I built a PC with hardware that is designed to be fast, which is why I like W8.1 over W7. W7 is a step slower in performance than W8.1 in just about every aspect. However I realize I'm probably not going to get what I want. *Sad
