Windows 10: Using old OS drive in a new setup without formatting

Good morning ,

I am about to make an upgrade on my desktop , which include installing Windows 10 in a M.2 NVMe drive , but keeping using the older drives ( SSD and HDD , which have the current Windows 10 ) .

My question is : After formatting and installing the OS in the new drive , and making sure at the boot menu that the boot priority is set to the new drive , can i use the old SSD and HDD drives without formatting ? Will the OS detect them as new drives and keep always asking to format them to use ?

I dont think I removed the old drive when installing the new...

And I have already tried what u suggest.

The new drive works fine even with the old physically remove from the case!But there must be a way to format the WHOLE drive,yes?

What du u suggest,then?

Run CMD


1. diskpart
2. list disk

Then in the 3º step, put the correct number of disk in the list for the usb flash (if it's listed in disk 3, then you'll have to write select disk 3).

2. select disk #
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

with that commands you will format the flash drive in fat32, if you have a large drive you can select also "format fs=ntfs" in step 7.
