Will unactivated Windows upgrade to 10?

I recently reinstalled Windows (7), only to find my product key has been lost to the sands of time (yes, more fool me for not making sure before reformatting). So I'm currently pootling around with an unactivated Windows for the next 20 days or so; my question
is will the upcoming Windows 10 upgrade still apply to an unactivated Windows? Will it become an unactivated Windows 10?

I'm hoping you've got good news; otherwise I'll be pushed into Linux. :-|

Using unactivated windows 10 for changing OS to Linux

Guide: How to enable, use, and configure SLI on Linux.

I guess the next logical step would be to report on the performance you can get with SLI in Linux. That'd be my suggestion anyway.
