Windows 10: Using Windows Easy Transfer

I used Windows Easy Transfer and stored the files on a flash drive. Can you access the files on the drive? the extension is mig. I cannot view what files were transferred. Once you have transferred the files to a new version of Windows is the stored files on the flash drive accessible? I did this transfer from Windows 7 to Windows 10 supposedly, by the storage date. However, I think my intent was to just backup my Documents file. But unable to view what files on on the flash drive.

Restoring a Windows Easy Transfer .mig file to Windows 10

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Community. I understand the inconvenience you faced. I will certainly help you with this.

Restoring a .MIG file using Windows Easy Transfer won’t work from an x64 to an x86 Operating system.

Download USMT4 MigRecover Utility
here and follow the below steps:

• Download the MigRecover Utility for USMT4 from one of the links above
• Extract the downloaded archive to a desired location
• Start by renaming the .MIG file to SaveData.MIG
• Create a destination folder for the extracted “raw” files
• Open an elevated command prompt (right-click – Run as Administrator)
• Browse to the desired folder location containing “MigRecover.exe”
• Type the following command: MigRecover.exe [.MIG file location] [Destination folder].

As Easy Transfer is not available in Windows 10, I suggest you to try recovering your files from Windows.old folder. As upgrading from Windows create a Windows.old folder in the drive where operating system resides.
