  1. Verify your identity on this pc, no code sent to e-mail?

The way it works for me is on that screen it shows a partial for your e-mail address, then in the second box you type it in again to confirm it. When you click next it sends the code to that e-mail address and your asked to enter it on the next screen. At the bottom is a "I can't do this right now" option that lets you skip entering the code for the time being. Then latter on when you have your e-mail setup and working you can go to the action center and enter it.

I was actually a little shocked when I opened my email on my W7 box, like 2 seconds later and the code was there.

Near the end of the initial install, I was asked to put in my MS Live account. This I did. T had previously chosen the option to get verification be Email, but the other choices, Email, or "I cant do this right now" were there. As soon as I filled in the last four digits of my cell phone, the verification code came immediately. Confirming, for security, that you are the user on the end of the verifcation, makes sense. This is the only time I have been asked to do this, unless I want to change any items in my live profile.

  4. Verify your identity on this pc, no code sent to e-mail?

That was the way it went for me, I got my code but it had been sent to my junk folder for the email addy. Of course I picked the email up from my other computer so I could go back to this Notebook and input the code and carry on with the install.

  6. Hi

I kept trying to do the authentication thing for several days.
    I never received a code.

It stayed in the Action Center, the little flag on the task bar.

So every few hours I would try again, then on about the 20th time I tried a code came through and it worked.

So for me just trying over and over eventually worked.

  7. I just gave it one more try on my desktop that is running 8.1 and it worked. I had installed Windows 10 on it but decided to go back to 8.1. I also tried it again on my laptop running 10 and it worked. That's a relief, I wasn't looking forward to calling my ISP to see if they blocked those e-mails. Press 1 for English, press 2 for ........ I guess I can mark this as solved.

Verify your identity on this pc, no code sent to e-mail?

I never had to do this. I installed Windows 10 with internet off and all drives except for the target SSD disconnected. The setup never offered anything but the local user account. Afterwards, I connected to the Internet to activate Windows and it did not even ask me for the key (that I wrote down from the download site, that was not necessary apparently). So my Windows copy is not aware of any email addresses I might have and it never asks me to use any of them.

  9. You won't need the code if you don't use a live ID. With a Live ID you can sync website passwords etc though the one drive sync feature across multiple PC's. If I log into say Windows 10 forums on my laptop and I tell it to remember this site. When I log into my desktop with my live ID that password gets synced to it. The code sent through e-mail is a safe guard measure so somebody can't spoof your live ID e-mail and get your passwords. The passwords and some other sync settings won't work until that PC is a trusted PC.

My problem is that I have three PCs (two converted). When it asks me for the email address, I have to give it the email address of my PC associated with the Microsoft Account which means that I have to go into the other room to get the code and come out and enter it on the PC I am working on.

Is there a way to associate the other two PCs with a different email account under the "master" Microsoft account?

  11. Log into your account online and check the options. You might be able to add another e-mail account as an alias. I do believe sending a text massage to a phone is also an option. You can also click the I can't do this now option. Then do it latter on when you have your e-mail client setup on that PC.

Thanks for the ideas. I tried before and I tried again and I cannot see any place to set up different emails for my other PCs. In fact, they tell me to use the same account email with my other devices.

I only use my cell phone for emergencies. I do not do texting. Too old to learn and no one to text to. Sorry.

I have email clients on all PCs. The problem is that the Microsoft account is tied to the main one.

Also, I cannot find a place at the Microsoft account to really contact anyone.

I guess I could try the Microsoft forum but they do not respond like the members on this forum.

They transferred me to the Windows Answer Desk - http://www.microsoftstore.com/store?...S&SiteID=msusa

The official answer is that I would have to set up a Microsoft account for each PC and register that PC to its own MS account.

That is not something that I really want to do, so I guess I will continue going to the other room to get the verify code when the situation comes up. Or figure out how to get a text to my phone.

    Thanks for your assistance.
