Windows 10: version 1709 installed

Discus and support version 1709 installed in Windows 10 Installation and Upgrade to solve the problem; version 1709 installed and Microsoft wants wordpad to be default, I have apache office which Microsoft is ignoring, it has tried 3 times to be default...     version 1709 installed and Microsoft wants wordpad to be default, I have apache office which Microsoft is ignoring, it has tried 3 times to be default but winpatrol stops it, how do I get Microsoft to stop asking

    My current Version of Windows 10: Version 1709 (OS Build 16299.248) installed on 02/13/18.

    Version 1709 (OS Build 16299.214) was installed on 02/11/18.

    Note, also on 02/11/18 Adobe Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 1709 was installed prior to OS Build 1699.214

    Version 1709 (OS Build 16299.192) was installed on 01/04/18.

    see how frustrating that is? even the update troubleshooter won't fix it. It's been going on for weeks.

    Sounds like Winpatrol [third-party software] is the problem in its stopping of programs. If Apache's OpenOffice is fully functional you should be able to set its Defaults to handle the file formats you desire that are on its list. In Settings, Apps you can set default programs. WordPad comes with Windows, back in Win3.x days it was called Write, the file write.exe still exists in Win10's Windows Folder but simply calls up WordPad.

  5. Turn off Winpatrol and then make your changes. Reboot. Then turn Winpatrol back on.
