Very slow (hours) to boot on clean install

    Hello

I have been having this problem even before I managed to install Windows 10. Initially I downloaded using Windows Media Creation Tool a copy of Windows 10 onto a USB, and booting from this was taking 15 minutes+ regularly. I'm not quite sure how but after formatting my drives appropriately for Windows 10 the USB seemed to stop working, so I ended up buying an official Microsoft Windows 10 USB for installing it. I did a clean install and yet still then I am having ever longer boot times, so much so that now I am essentially unable to get into Windows 10 (I've left it booting for about 3 hours now until I gave up and am attempting to boot into Automatic Repair but this has still been going for 15 minutes).

I updated the BIOS of my motherboard when I was having the initial problems. My graphics card drivers are the latest available. I've followed the instructions from this page:

    https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/windows-10-slow-boot-issues/

I've also browsed countless similar questions on this website with no avail!

And yet I am still having the issue! My PC is one I made about 5 years ago with the following specs:

    Intel Core i5-4460 3.2 GHz Quad-Core Processor

    ASRock Fatal1ty H97 Killer ATX LGA1150 Motherboard

    Corsair Vengeance 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR3-1600 Memory

Western Digital BLACK SERIES 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Crucial M550 256 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

Asus GeForce GTX 970 4 GB STRIX Video Card

Unfortunately Windows is installed on the WD drive rather than the SSD as the SSD didn't seem to format correctly to allow me to install it on that one.

Any help would be much appreciated!

    :)

  2. Clean Install Workaround for Vista

You may remember this news story on techPowerUp! a couple of days ago relating to the lack of clean installs when using the Upgrade Editions of Vista, which required an old OS to be installed. However, Paul Thurrott has managed to find a workaround for this issue, which ironically lets users do a clean install Vista without any previous version of Windows, albeit a little tedious. Here are the steps:
    • Boot from the Windows Vista Upgrade DVD as normal
    • When prompted for a product code, leave this blank
    • Select the version of Vista you have purchased and let Vista install
    • When you boot to your desktop for the first time, run the Vista setup from Windows
    • This time enter your product key
    • When asked whether you want to do an Upgrade of Custom install, select custom and choose a clean install
    • Windows will now install for a second time and you should be able to activate it
Remember, these steps are only advised for use in order to achieve a clean install of Vista, it is only legal to use the upgrade editions if you have previously purchased the appropriate version of Windows.

The tutorials provided are just a list of troubleshooting steps. Use only the steps which apply to you.

Since none of the troubleshooting steps here worked, I'd suggest you do a Clean install.
