Windows 10: Very slow WiFi on Windows 10

I recently got a new Lenovo Ideapad. After updating Windows and MSOffice, I started using it as I normally would. It works fine. I could go to Dictionary.com or Wikipedia and CNN except the WiFi is very slow. I've tried connecting via ethernet and the speed seems to be normal. When I'm connected via ethernet cable, my WiFi speed according to speedtest.net is around 10Mbps, which should be normal. However, when I don't use the ethernet speedtest shows my WiFi speed is around 2Mbps or speedtest says it couldn't connect to the internet at all.


My observation is, it only becomes slow when I'm connected via WiFi. The voice of the person I'm speaking with on Skype becomes very distorted. This is really puzzling because I don't have the same problem when I use my older Acer laptop (which I upgraded from Win7 to Win10).

I've had the same problem as Panayiotis1984. Upgraded to Windows 10 on my Lenovo from windows 8.1 - now the wifi is painfully slow. The wifi still works fine on my other devices (smartphone etc).

I tried the steps that you suggested but they did not bring an improvement.

Any other suggestions?

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
