Just google your Motherboard model, and go to the manufacturer's website, their, go to specifications and you'll see the VIA Audio model number!

Yes, I've installed, and now mic works, and also automatic switch between internal speakers and headset plugged in the jack. The VIA Check software doesn't works, so when a headset is plugged no one pop-up window appears, but everything works now.

    Is your machine S400CA?

Yes it is, if you click on "My System Specs" you can see I've a Asus VivoBook S400CA, the one with Intel Core i3 and 4GB of ram (I've upgraded with other 4GB), and a mechanical hard disk of 500 Gb.
First I've unistalled the VIA componets on Input/output devices and the VIA HD Audio on Audio/Video/Play controllers, and VIA Platform from apps. Then, without rebooting, I've installed the new VIA package driver.
Then rebooted, and rebooted again just to be sure Windows 10 doesn't overwrite/change something.
Don't go to see which driver you have on the VIA input/output devices or in Audio/Video/Play controllers, because an alert that hardware has changed appears, and then it mess up again (mic doesn't work), and you need to do again all the procedure to fix it.
Hope also on your pc it will fix your issue.

  6. I have had the same problem, I download the new VIA driver package yesterday and it worked, for a while, then about noon today, just out of the blue Windows 10 decides to just uninstall the VIA drivers and replaced them with Windows 10 Audio drivers (I'm reading a story on ESPN, the screen go blank for 10 seconds and blam) and I had gone back to having headphones as the default output device even though my headphone are unplugged and are on the other side of the room. I went into device manager and deleted the Windows Audio drivers and reinstalled the the VIA drivers, after a restart the Via drivers are back and everything is working as expected, for now.

Big thanks to erpster4 for giving the driver package. I don't know how you people find stuff like this but I'm glad you do.

Anyways, the driver worked for a little while, the first two days was fine, and there was an automatic switch between headphones/speakers. However, today I booted up the computer to find that the computer messed up somewhere and muted the headphones. Or rather, both headphones and speakers play sounds fine, but the sound menu labels both as "speakers". It's a bit hard to explain, but I've somehow fixed it by disabling the headphones for now. Weird.

Anyways, thanks everyone that helped out *Smile. I'll leave this open for problems some other people posted.

    Hello,

I just want to share my own experience. As most of you, I have same problems of VIA driver updated by Windows 10 causing microphone and speaker sound problems. The original drivers from VIA or Asus are OK, but they are quickly replaced somehow by Windows 10 (maybe at a reboot). So once I was on a good configuration with VIA driver (in Device manager it appears as High definition audio (good) instead of Via audio (bad), I use the following tool to prevent Windows 10 to update the existing good driver.

How to Uninstall and Block Updates and Drivers on Windows 10

Then the VIA driver to be updated is listed by the tool. So you just check it to mask it to be updated from Windows 10. This seems to work well!

Of course you must use the tool when you are with the working driver but candidate to be updated by Windows. Otherwise, if you are with the latest VIA driver updated by Windows 10, you will not see the VIA driver in the MS tool above, and hence you will not be able to block/mask anything.

    Hope this helps.

Sorry for the necropost. I will start a new thread if required but this is exactly my problem though none of the solutions above seem to work. The VIA driver download which I actually tried before coming here gives me the option to switch automatically. That turns the speakers off but the headsets do not work. Other fixes including this one I found on reddit and the one in the previous post there by hapx do not seem to work. They either make it so the system tray says they are switched when they are not or the headphones or speakers don't work.
My next step is to download a switcher that runs in the systray that allows a switch with a single click but I would really rather it just worked correctly. Any help?
BTW .. I did verify that my VIA chipset (1818) is included in the VIA download)

Hello everyone. It's not a first my (or my friends) problem with VIA HD Audio on Windows 10 (XP, 7, 8 too).
I've found solution for my job's Desktop PC.

    Sound: VIA VT1708S
    OS: Windows 10 Pro x64
problem: front panel does not work (AC97 type I think)
step 1: download official driver and install
step 2: run v11_1100f_Win10RS1_logo_11012016\VIAHDAud\Present\VDeck64\VDeck.exe, goto settings and disable Auto recogniotion of plugged device option

Well my son's PC which runs a M4A88T-M AM3+ mobo. Worked great since day of purchase back in 6 or 7 years now. Anyways, recently updated to windows 10 & he hasn't used his headset for gaming until recently to descover the front panel does nothing. Static connecting the headset but that's about it. Doesn't even show up on recording devices. Still omits sound from the rear 2.0 speakers. Tried connecting the headphones to one of the other 5.1 ports but nothing at all.

Problem is, VIA are not as popular on newer motherboards. Realtek has kinda taken their thunder & for whatever reason. I cannot find VIA VDeck software anywhere to install for windows 10 x64. All I get directed to is the latest VIA audio drivers that doesn't do squat.

I expected problems with software & support eventually for his motherboard. But the fact that there's nothing that will allow you to configure the 5.1 ports or even to omit sound from all speakers & not individually. But even them, not even the Mic works. I know headset works as tested on laptop.

So, if your buying a Motherboard that doesn't have windows 10 specific drivers on the manufacturers site. I would avoid!

VIA HD Audio doesn't switch between speakers/headphones

Do not believe anything you read, even if it says that the headphones you want to buy are noise cancelling. The majority of headphones will separate noise, but do not confuse that together with sound isolation. Whichever you end up picking, you should know they are not ideal. If you need to deal with low frequency sounds according to this site Headphonesencyclopedia.com then almost all noise cancelling headphones will certainly deliver the results.
