Hello all.... Hope someone can steer me in the right direction. I recently bought a new video card, EVGA Gtx 950 but when I tried installing it didn't work... I think the problem may with my Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3 MB which doesn't have UEFI support. Is there anyway of changing the Bios to allow that support or do I need another MB? Thanks

    :)

    Video Card Issues S.O.S.

    Welcome to Ten-Forums !

UEFI has nothing to do with this, you can not add a UEFI BIOS if it is not one, but can update the your BIOS.
This is an older board last drivers made were for Windows 7 and the last BIOS update was 2011.
    http://www.gigabyte.com/products/pro...px?pid=3440#sp

I see you have a 1 x PCI Express x16 slot (The PCIEX16 slot conforms to PCI Express 2.0 standard.)

There are a number of EVGA GTX 950 Graphics Cards listed http://www.evga.com/Products/Product...hipset=GTX+950

Some of the System Requirements differ, Power Draw 110W, with an 350 Watt or greater power supply and an available 6 or 8 -Pin Power Connector for these cards. What is the wattage of the Power Supply and are you installing it in the correct PCI slot ? Also amperage on the +12v rail maybe around 18-20amps needed for these cards on the PSU. My be either hooked in wrong slot or not inserted correctly and or not enough power.

  5. thanks for the reply.... My PSU is 850. I've connected it into all 3 of my PCI Slots just to check. All 3 allow my older VIDEO Card to work fine. I've tried several of the PCI Power connectors but no luck.... What I get when plugged in is/are single beeps, about 30 seconds apart with the Gigabyte MB screen to pop up but I can't even access the Bios or other options... The VC locks in fine. My initial thought was the power supply - I noticed with my GTX 551 a light goes on to show I have power but no light occurs when I plug the GTX 950.... My other guess which I referenced above was the UEFI ISSUE. Guess there is no sure/good way to update older VC w/UEFI which seems to be my problem... I could put the older VC and access my original Bios and update but to where/what purpose....

I agree with JDS63 that it should not matter that you don't have a UEFI motherboard.

The procedure I follow when I change graphics cards is:

    Uninstall the current graphics drivers.

Power down the PC. (Do not restart.)

Swap in the new graphics card.

Power up. If all goes well, you'll boot into Windows, perhaps with the Microsoft basic graphics driver.

Install the latest drivers for the new card.

Sometimes, I have needed to clear the CMOS to get the motherboard to boot with the new card. On your motherboard, that's done with a jumper. See your manual. (It's available for download as a PDF.)

Some of what you write doesn't seem to exactly match the motherboard in your specs.

For example, the Ga-p55-usb3 has only 2 slots that would accept a PCI-E X16 graphics card. One of those is X4 electrically, so you'd want to use the one nearest the CPU. You couldn't put a PCI Express graphics card into a PCI slot. I'm also not sure what "light" you refer to. The only onboard LED I see is one in the corner of the board that indicates CPU activity. (Sorta cool, but not all that useful.)

    Best of luck.

PCI-E closest to the CPU is one you should use,as said by the other member here. You say you get 1 beep every 30 seconds, long, short beeps ? Looking at your manual if the correct MB the one you have is an Award BIOS. So you only get as far as the Gigabyte Logo screen and it is stuck there, so basically you have a picture and there is no integrated Graphics on this board i see.

Shown in this picture are the beep codes. It still can be possible you do not have the power connections in properly or enough connected, recheck this connection on each end, PSU and card make sure both are securely in. Again most state reseating the card which you say you have done. Other then knowing the exact beep codes, you could of also loosened another connection on hard drive (SATA Cables, Power cables) or other hardware while in the case doing this, recheck all other connections to hardware. Forget about UEFI thoughts. You can try clearing the CMOS, it might be something else loose if you did do everything with the graphics card correct.

You need to put it in a PCI-Express x16 slot in your motherboard, PCI slots will not work. And, I think your GTX 950 needs a 6 pin connector, if I am correct I think the 750 Ti and 950 are the same anyway. I got a message saying "You need to plug in the 6-pin connector from your power supply" or something like that.

Now, with my previous GT 730, when I FIRST installed in to my previous HP Compaq 6000 Pro, and used an HDMI setup is gave me a black screen with a little bit of green tint. SO, I used a DVI connecting (or VGA) connection instead, and that fixed my problem, then I did the driver installations, updates, blah blah blah, and then I could then use an HDMI connection. I don't use an HDMI connection anymore because of the fuzziness and the yucky colors, VGA is smooth and just right for me (maybe that's a problem? *Think

Hope this helps you any. *Smile

  9. Thanks for for the reply. I have done most of what you suggested, except clearing the CMOS..... Will give that a shot. The light I referred to was the light on the actual Video Card, which I guess shows that sufficient power is reaching the Card, the light is green, yellow if only powered with one 6-pin connector... Thanks.... I may be back SOON!

  10. Thanks so much for the reply... What I find odd, when I re-sit the older Video Card everything works fine. That would suggest all other connections are fine, when I re-seat the GTX 950, it snaps in. I did when a light (green) list up - this occurs on the GTX 551 Video Card but no light lights up on the new VC (which originally led me to believe the problem was a power issue, but my PSU IS 850, should be plenty sufficient).
When powered up with the new VC, I get to the Gigabyte Logo screen, I then use the correct keys to try to get to the BIOS setup but nothing works, again I get a quick single beep followed by long single beeps app. 6, 30 seconds apart then the screen goes blank except for a blinking cursor located at the top of the screen, left side.
Based on other advice I will try again and try clearing the CMOS.... Obviously this needs to be done with the old VC?

  11. Hey, thanks for the reply... I've used the PCI-E16 slot and the 6-pin connector, several, in fact, just to see if I loosened any power connectors... My older Video Card needed 2 X 6-pin power connectors, which caused a green light to light up on the Video Card, this GTX 950 card has no light ( which would have been handy). This isn't a DVI connection, a hdmi and 2 DisplayPort connectors, no VGA connectors.... I've received another tip, hopefully this will work! Thanks.

If you had access to another system to test it on you could try it there to determine if the graphics card is defective.

    Video Card Issues S.O.S.

I am as others are confused about your talk about a light for the video card, is it on the board because you mention it as being with both video cards ? O.k. so no other cables are loose on any other hardware.

You need to look also at the beep codes i showed you from the manual to determine the cause, yes it can be defective to or something was damaged during install. Nothing that states it like you mentioned for the beeps during post, need to listen few times. Only thing starting as 1 short beep is a successful boot, possible rest follows what is wrong, it should beep once on all successful boots this would be with your board. Think clearing the CMOS is just resetting the BIOS settings to default.

  14. Hiya.... Did some searching and found and installed another Mother Board, this one is still old but newer than the other one, it a gigabyte ga-x79s-UPS-WIFI. It has dual EUFI Bios and a Clear CMOS Button.... Suffice to say I installed this one, hooked up the power and viola.... Same result... I cleared the CMOS (will try switching the Bios to which ever is the secondary one next).... On this model I remember initially I setup a SLI connection for 2 Video Cards....would this have an effect since this new Video Card is a single one not two?

I'm assuming the Error Codes remain the same for this newer Gigabyte MB (again, I get a series of short beeps & can't access any options, delete, F9 or F12 once the MB Logo page prompts up).... I did re-sit one older card and everything worked normally.

Starting to to think the GTX 950 is a dud....

Same Power Supply used ? If BIOS is cleared as far as i know it would be o.k. and i do not think there is settings in the BIOS for SLI, as i never did SLI. Unless a power issue it might be the card then. Was this card brand new or bought used or received from someone you knew ?
