Windows 10: Video game says Adminstrator required, but I am administrator?

Basically my game Call of Duty 2 gives me an error every time I try to start it, something like "Please run as administrator", even though I am an administrator. I went into the Properties tab for the shortcut and the main game EXE, and I changed the Security to allow for all users to use it, and even have tried running it in Compatibility mode WITH the "Run as administrator" check-box checked off. Have tried running in compatibility with windows Xp service pack 2, 3, also tried Windows 7. None work.

What to do? I've read up that some say it's a certain update in Windows 10 that makes it impossible to launch? And if it helps, it only happens with the Singleplayer exe. Not Multiplayer. If I try switching to Singleplayer from Multiplayer (an ingame trick you can do), it says something like "you must elevate past" somethingy. Basically I think it equated to telling me I need administrator privalages.

Very disappointed in Microsoft, why is this happening? If I paid for the game years ago and wanted to show it to me little friends in the family, I should be able to no? It's always worked before.

If you right click on the exe and choose run as admin does it run ok then?

 

Apparently this problem has been around for at least 9 years. This post from 2007 links to an Activision support page that's no longer available, fortunately they also quoted from it.

Translating that into the modern world, I would suggest reinstalling it and using 'Run as Administrator' the first time. Just running it logged in with an administrator account isn't likely to be sufficient. With Windows 10 even an admin account launches apps with only standard user rights by default.

So, I reinstall it and then the FIRST time; run as administrator? How do you know that will do anything? I'm not going to just reinstall it going through 6 discs if it's not going to work. Logically, I should be able to run it any time as administrator and it should work. Why does it have to be the first time?

And I know that it's not sufficient, that's why I modified the Security and Compatibility options. Shouldn't that work?

 

Okay so I reinstalled and made sure to run the setup exe as administrator (because the game installer wouldn't even come up, disappointed again in Windows 10), then ran it the first time after install as administrator. Nothing happened. I click it and nothing happens. What do I do?

 

Hi supervegeta. I have COD2 on my Win10 PC so I went back and reviewed my install notes from when I migrated all my games from Win7 to Win10. Here is the deal: COD2 uses SecureROM to manage DRM. SecureROM was deemed to be a security risk by MS so support was removed from Win10. You can reinstall the files but it will be disabled, no joy. The only way that you will be able to play it is to repurchase it through Steam. This time of year Steam often puts older games like COD2 on sale so you might get lucky and get it cheap. That's what I did. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
