Windows 10: videos in windows 10

how do I get rid of black bars on either side of youtube videos, and downloaded video clips from other sites? Things were shown full screeen on windows 7.

Windows 10 upgrade - data loss

I have the same problem. I had two users set up with Windows and after upgrading I have one user, which was the one that I did not use. Now I cannot figure a way to regain access to my other user account or to an admin account. I hope Microsoft posts
a fix soon.

OK, so i figured it out myself

Found the logfile in "C:\Windows\Minidump".

You need the Windows Development Kit to open it and a bit of googling to understand it.

Found out that a Daemon driver caused an error. Removed Daemon but this didn't solve it. (ps: Daemon itself worked normally).

I let hibernate my computer again and found another error with sptd2.sys: SCSI Pass Through Direct layer

More google and ended up on the duplexsecure site. Downloaded the W10 version and voila: problem fixed.

For the Windows support team: It would be really helpfull if you could pass problems to a more skilled helpdesk who can do more than proposing the standard solutions in case those won't work.

I have been using Windows 10 for several months and all of the videos that are 16:9 aspect ratio fill my screen very nicely. What aspect ratio is your screen? If the original aspect ratio of the video is anything besides 16:9, then I will have black bars, either on top and bottom of the screen, or on both sides of the screen, depending on the aspect ratio of the video. Just like on television.

I use ClipGrab to save YouTube videos.

 

To elaborate, if you have a 16:9 screen and you are watching 4:3 videos, then the black bars on the sides of the video are natural, just like watching an old television show on a new flat screen television. But if you are watching a 2.35:1 video on your 16:9 screen, then you will get black bars on the top and bottom of the video. Again, this is natural just like watching television. What aspect ratio is your screen?

 

when i was using windows 7 all my saved videos were 16.9 and filled my monitor. But, when playing them with windows 10, the same videos are 4:3, so they show black bars. Must be a windows 10 thing. Oh for the days of XP!

 

No, it is most definitely not a "Windows 10 thing." You should be able to diagnose the problem.

 

youtube used to have a tags option, which enabled change of ratio. But they removed it. My PC manufacturer MESH, said videos played 16:9 but they played the latest of music videos which are all widescreen. I have tried diagnosing the problem, but cannot find anything to change my original 4:3 videos to widescreen.

 

That is some thing that a normal human being would never want to do. Why would any normal human being want to change a 4:3 video to display as 16:9? That would create so much geometric distortion that it would look crazy.

 

Yeah man, I just did a little experiment using a few 4:3 videos and I converted them to fill a 16:9 screen. Wow! That is the most bizarre thing that I have ever seen. The shape of everything was twisted so badly that the whole picture just looked bizarre and was really head ache inducing. But a previous post indicated that YouTube once had a setting to do this and now has eliminated that setting. You do realize that YouTube has nothing to do with Microsoft or Windows 10, so like I indicated earlier in this thread the situation that you are talking about is definitely not a "Windows 10 thing." I guess that too many people complained about it over at YouTube so they had to eliminate that option, and I could see why.
