  2. Windows 10 Picture Files not updating thumbnails

    Hi,

I realize that the picture files are not updating thumbnails. I will try to help you with this issue.

Suggest you to perform “Disk Cleanup”, cleaning up the temporary internet files, thumbnail, cookies and temp files, so as to check the thumbnail view of the photo is updated by cleaning up your temporary data.

Further, if the issue persists then you can also follow these steps:

    • Right click in the Folder that contains the images.

    • Select View.

    • Note the current icon size, and change it to another size (ie: "Medium-Icons" to "Large-Icons", then back to "Medium-Icons").

    • This causes the icons to be resized and their cache updated.

Keep us informed to help you further.

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

No thumbnail view in video folders

OK. Here's the thing. It's not a VLC issue. It's a windows file explorer issue. Seems that the only folders/files affected are video files. The folders, all of them, have always shown the thumbnails for videos, depending on the format and container.
It did in Win7 and it originally did in Win10. Something changed. I don't know what. That's why I included the format information in my original post. I don't know just how many videos have been effected yet as I have literally thousands. They are all
cartoons and are used in curating channels on both YouTube and Dailymotion. The reason for the quantity is that each average about 7 minutes and is almost every cartoon made since people started messing with animated drawings. I have to have them in a certain
format for uploading. MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 or Advanced Video Coding. When in this format, the video file will show a thumbnail view in the folder. There are also
others that will, such as AVI and Matroska. Files in Flash, any Apple Divix, etc will not. Now even the MPEG-4 won't.

The trouble shooter tells me nothing. It doesn't see a problem. To the trouble shooter, everything is just fine. And, I can understand that because the files aren't being corrupted. The contents are good. It's the view in the folder that's being effected.
The visual is important to me. It is part of how I recognize what I'm selecting. It will always show a frame from somewhere in the first second or so of the video. It might include a studio logo, character name, studio name or some part of several other
    visual clues as to content.

The icon for VLC is just a traffic cone. It's their trademark. Now, after the updates, all I see are folders of traffic cones. I thought I was loosing my mind for a moment. It didn't take long for me to realize that Windows 10 has this ability to force
it's stuff on you, even if you set it up differently. It will accept what you want until it decides different.

Restarting, running the trouble shooter, trying to set file explorer folder options is of no effect. The folder options will not change to what I set them to. If you open the folder options>view>advanced settings I will give you several options. The first
one for "always show icons never thumbnails" is deselected. The third one is "display file icon on thumbnails". It is the way I chose. It is what I have always chosen ever since Win95. It's what I need. Now it has stopped working and I am unable to set
the folder/file view the way I need.

Here is the list of updates that Windows installed. All at one time.
