Old tech, inefficient, ugly, and unsecure just to name a few. Have you heard of a virus or adware in a Modern Store app? I haven’t. The anti-Linux statement applies here; "no one is bothers to write malware for something with a market share that low."

Most of the real computer-related work that is performed, is done on the desktop (not on phones and/or tablets).

“Albeit wrongly” is correct. Most tech press writers and most IT pros knocked it down long before release, so the rest of the crowd follows just as they did with Vista. Yes, Vista was buggy and had a lot of problems at first, but given time it turned out to be a good OS. By then it’s too late. The bad rep stayed with it just as with 8.x because “they said so”. Good grief. There’s two professions that aren’t really “multitasking users” either. Ordinary people don't read the "Tech Press".

IT Pros (who you disparage) are they very people who have to keep everything running.
Their opinions are more useful than fashionistas & marketers, when it comes to computers/software.

I wouldn’t say 15% of the PCs on the planet is “on an island with only a few other people”. Seriously? Don’t forget all the tablets and phones it runs on also. It is compared to the 85% of desktop users who run something else.

Throwing in phones and tablets makes it worse, as that market is almost entirely made up of Android and Apple stuff.

What is the W8 series market share in those markets?
    Operating system market share

  2. I will definitely get Win10. I already use it as the primary OS on a MacAir 2013 via Bootcamp, because I can. I have this self built i5 desktop dual booting with Win10 and run it in a virtual machine on both my Surface Pro 3 and this Win 8.1 desktop, to learn about it and inform my organisation. I expect that it will be a free, or nearly free, upgrade for Win8 if not Microsoft are completely reading the market wrong. I love my Lumia 920 but it is getting long in the tooth so Windows Mobile 10 will keep me on it, or I might instead go to the rumoured WP 1030 when it comes out

I think you are dreaming. The priority for MS is to move the XP and 7 users, not the 8.1 users.

  5. Not read the whole thread but I'll vote Yes, that is if the price is right, if not I'll have to stay with this 8.1 Notebook till I get another machine with it installed. *Wink

  6. I think you are dreaming. The priority for MS is to move the XP and 7 users, not the 8.1 users. As Windows a 7 user, the way things are, I'm staying put; Windows 10 doesn't do it for me!

Windows 7 does all that I need with an effective Start Menu which Windows 10 still lacks, IMHO.

I think we'll have to wait until RTM times to really be able to judge whether 10 will float out boat. They mucked up too much with the recent updates to get a real picture of the final product. But I am sure they will fix that. Another Vista or 8 disaster is not in their interest.

I get that in Office every now and then. Strange thing is that it didn't have anything to do with opening "Documents". I was inserting a hyperlink when that popped up. It could be that I just reinstalled 10TP because of blue screening and therefore installed Office again. Also changed my password recently. It also may be due to opening files in OneDrive. Not really sure what causes it.

I Never get it with my live.com account within the Store Mail app. How often do you get the popup?

"Soon to follow 30 hold of the account"? May I ask what that means?

Yes, I will get it on at least one computer, probably a Notebook. I have clients who undoubtedly will have questions, especially those still on WinXP and Vista who haven't upgraded yet. Most of those will need new computers. Sometimes it's necessary to try to duplicate what the clients see so I have Vista, Win7, Win8.1, Mac OS X and Linux computers, at the moment only the Vista is off.

  10. 30 day hold is an automatic item that pops up just by attempting to alter security information,
This could be just simply updating a alternate email address or even password... any security stuff :/
How often well does it happen = every time I try it's happen three times so far it's like I have to say "mother may I" change this info or can you mighty Microsoft do it for me *Tongue

Microsoft does not like new accounts or something I'm scared to attempt to change my password on my Hotmail account that I've have forever good thing it has a good password *Smile
Otherwise Microsoft message is spot on Over protective nonsense
To this day the alternate email address still shows wrong after trying 3 times to change it I've pretty much given up *Sad

Ok, so how did you delete the Gmail account? Within the Store app, Outlook.com, or Gmail online?

The only way to delete a email address is within the email account you want to delete

  14. It's wait and see for me. I don't see anything to make me want to switch from 8.1 to 10 at this time. I'm not a fan of the new Start Menu so what they do with that has no influence on me. I hope those that want it get what they want, as long as its optional as far as using it goes. If they actually get Snap to work correctly for Metro Apps, I'll be happy to have another go at trying it. For now though I'll stick with 8.1.

To absolutely delete it out of existence, yes. What I was referring also to was deleting the account within the Mail app. They should have terms for this such as piggyback so there's no confusion.

So, this account doesn't exist at all. Did you go into your Outlook.com account online to try to straighten things out?
