Poll Upgraded, without issue from Version 1 to 2.0 *Wink

    Edit

Forgot to mention I also moved those who had voted "upgraded from 8" and then explained that they actually moved from 8.1 to the correct vote, (that is - everyone *Wink )

The poll is also private now as some do not vote in public polls *Wink

Thanks for all the comments. Very helpful.

I upgraded from Windows 7 on one of my backup/server machines as a test. I fully expected to get my activation code and then restore the Windows 7 image and leave it like that until I had time to do a clean install of 10.

But the upgrade went so well, with nearly everything set up just as it was in 7, that I have also decided to leave it. I also can't see the benefit to doing all the work to clean install now. But it is good to know that this is a common experience, not a lucky shot!

Now I am more motivated to upgrade my main office machines. I have started preparing this one but have run into a somewhat non-related problem, which I will post in the forum soon.

Upgraded main machine using ISO within windows and all went well. Just done a start menu audit and all programs working great except VMWare player which a reinstall fixed. Other machine clean install due to lack of space (20gb drives) from USB stick.

*Ditto I originally did the free upgrade to get digital entitlements for all my PC's. Clean installs after that. I've had some issues from doing upgrades. They didn't reappear when doing a clean install though.

Yes, I should say that I did not have any problems. After my upgrade my fixed hard drives were all showing up as removable.
The solution was easy though, just reinstalling the AHCI driver fixed it.
I was expecting there might be some driver issues so I didn't give that one much weight. Pretty tame by upgrade standards.

I chose multiple. Desktop one is a dual boot. Upgraded from 8 to 8.1 to 10 and dual boot to 10 Preview. Desktop two came pre-installed with Win 10. Multiple laptops and tablets that were either upgrade from Win 7 or 8 to 8.1 then to 10. Phone was upgraded from Win 8 to Win 10. I still have one laptop that has XP and Win 7.

    To date, I have upgraded 3 (1x laptop - 1x PC 1x Tablet) from windows 7 (1x 64 bit, and 2x 32 bit)

In each case, all 'lost' search and Edge within hours. Fortunately I had done myself a USB media stick for both 32 and 64 bit.
A second quick (did I say quick?) install from the USB corrected these 'problems' - and all have been quite stable since.

  12. First clean install, because upgrade from Windows 7 did not work on my desktop and 2 notebooks.
Second time another clean install of Windows 10 1511 on my desktop pc, because the upgrade from Windows 10 10240 did not work either.
So looking forward to the next big 'upgrade', NOT !
Get your act together Microsoft ...

Win7 pro-July install via the update method was a long experience. Nov downloaded the iso, burned to cd, installed inplace upgrade...everything went well.
Laptop 8.1 July install did not go so well, had to be repeated for success. Nov upgrade was smooth.
Recently that repeated download/install for the Visual C 2012 occurred on the desktop but not on the laptop. The repair routine in Programs-Features got that sorted out.

CLEAN install for 2 systems for me, How? see below:

Note: I used a 4Gb USB2.0 flashdrive for each system as the windows 10 Home installation media will not exceed this size.

From within each of my Windows 7 HP 32bit & 64bit systems,
I used the 'microsoft media creation tool' to download and create an installable USB flashdrive for each.

Then I Backed up, Backed up and used manufacturers SSD tools (from a prepared bootable usb stick) to wipe and remove partitions from the windows 7 SSD's. (both of which were OCZ SSD)

Then a clean install was initiated with the created installation flashdrives for each system.
Once a restart was complete, I logged online, and activated using my windows 7 activation keys, Simple!

The best thing about this method is, you have a master recovery/ installation usb for each respective PC or laptop.

{The Genuineticket method does not seem to work on version 10.0.10586 but worked on the previous version]

I did a clean install with a Windows 10 license key - not an "upgrade", "update", or anything like that. No, I did not use the "free upgrade" offer, I'm keeping my Windows 7 until the hardware stops supporting it.
