Emma, burning a CD from an .iso is really not a big deal. You probably have a program on your system that will burn the CD when you double click on the .iso.

Check in Control Panel\Programs\Default Programs\Set Associations which burning program you have. it is under iso.

  3. I'd vote keep both 7 and 10 *Wink

I'll definitely get Windows 10 for my two newer rigs. Today I decided to install build 9879 in real hardware and I'm doing my daily tasks on it with no pain at all. Of course I still have Windows 8.1 if something goes wrong...

    Among other softwares I'm using:
    AutoCAD 2015 x64
    CorelDRAW X7 x64
    Office 2013 x64
    Rocscience Pack
    GeoStudio 2012
    Nero Platinum 2015
    Format Factory 3.5
    Freemake Video Capture
    K-lite Codec Pack 10.95

I think you are just polluting your system. Codec packs are terrible.

Thanks for the information ! I confess that I never had problems with K-Lite, but it's good to know the "risks".

  9. How do you play anything on Windows without them?

There have been articles recently trumpeting "native" MKV and FLAC support in W10.
This suggests that previous versions didn't support those formats.

I hate codecs (another triumph of the "Free Market").
At least things aren't as bad as a decade ago, when I had to have 6 different media players installed to be assured of being able to play most videos.

These days I have MPC-HC and VLC installed and they seem to be able to play all of the videos I've tried.

  10. Definitely get 10

Going to keep running it as a VM until release and just testing/looking at the new features, as soon as it available to buy (is that the right word if its free?) I will be upgrading my 8.1

    Hi there

Actually an interesting and AFAIK not illegal way will be to get an update for a W7 VM and then clone the updated VM. I wonder though if one then did a V2P (Virtual to Physical) conversion to a REAL machine would it activate successfully !!!!

I'll have to try this at the appropriate time.

I'll certainly update my 8.1 machine(s) -- can't see any reason to keep 8.1 if W10 works OK as it seems to be doing now.

    Cheers

I have not installed a single third party codec pack in years on any of my Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 computers. I have never had an audio or video file which could not be played with VLC Player out of the box without any additional codecs.

I have never had an audio or video file which could not be played with VLC Player out of the box without any additional codecs. I can't recall if I ever had playback problems after I started using W7.

OTOH, VLC updates regularly break other functions/tools in the program itself.
VLC v2.0.8 was the last version that worked 100% for the purposes I use it for.

I assume that you don't have any media using MKV or FLAC.
