You're kidding right. I don't believe that at all. I paid $50 for my reformatting stick for my Acer laptop, they can't stop me from reformatting. This should turn into a really good discussion.

I doubt I will upgrade any of my existing Win 7 or Win 8 machines to Win 10 but any new machines I build or buy will most likely have Win 10 on them.

I haven't decided yet. If it's available for my computers, then yes I will jump on the bandwagon and get Windows 10. Because, I really don't want my to lose support of updates.

  10. All updates will be free for the life of the device. Yes, I know. But, they are saying now that it will only be available for "some" users. I have a Windows 8.1 desktop with the 8.1 Update installed and a Windows 7 laptop with the SP1 installed. I really don't know what they are talking about, when they say "some". I am guessing it means that if your computer meets the hardware requirements. That's what it said on the Microsoft Windows website. If you have not signed up for Windows 10, I would do so now by following this link Windows 10 - Microsoft Windows. Otherwise, you may be left in the dust.

  12. For what it's worth BadRobot I doubt the oem versions will be all that expensive
Not everyone is all that crazy about upgrade versions but free is attractive *Wink

Coming from Win 7, I am not really that crazy about the free upgrade. I would really love to keep my 7. That's why I asked earlier about upgrading only a cloned copy.

Up to now, I am still not liking Win 8 but the "new" Win 10 is really something to look forward to. I have nothing to lose with Win 8. *Smile

  14. It is our intent that most of these devices will qualify, but some hardware/software requirements apply and feature availability may vary by device. Devices must be connected to the internet and have Windows Update enabled. ISP fees may apply. Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 Update required. Some editions are excluded: Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 8/8.1 Enterprise, and Windows RT/RT 8.1. Active Software Assurance customers in volume licensing have the benefit to upgrade to Windows 10 Enterprise outside of this offer. We will be sharing more information and additional offer terms in coming months.

Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or fasterRAM: 1 gigabyte (GB)
Free hard disk space: 16 GB
Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM driver

    From rcpmag.com

Does anyone know what this means?

To me it sounds like to get the free windows 10. You have to use windows update to install windows 10 for free. I don't like that method at all. Lot of people were expecting iso, dvd or usb flash to install windows 10. That won't help Microsoft get more windows 10 users but that just my opinion.

That same statement is also here
