Now that my free 200 GB OneDrive offer is ending I have to decide between base, 50GB, Office 365 Home or alternative sync storage. Any guidance would be appreciated.

I have desktop+laptop Windows computers. Same @live.com e-mail for all. Other local users for networking. Also Mac+iOS devices. Used OneDrive on Windows only so far. OneDrive setup to be used like DropBox sync with only root folder and no other folders shared. I almost never log into cloud OneDrive and am not familiar with it.

I currently have about 125 GB OneDrive used. Most space taken by music files that are there for convenience backup, but are also on local HDD+ NAS. Maybe 30 GB of that are the other files (.exe, .pdf, .txt, etc.).
I am a casual Libre Office on Windows / Excel on iOS user. Although a long time ago a heavier Office 2010 user.
Spent time researching and asking Microsoft support tech to get more detailed info. I can't decide between the options I know or something I'm not aware of yet.
I do not really need/want a full TB of OneDrive, but it would be a nice upper limit. I only looked at Office 365 Home as an option due to associated free OneDrive space. Office would be a useful, but not critical addition. My Mac has only a 256 GB SSD. It seems that all of the Windows OnDrive files would sync to the Mac which would not work.

    Options could be :

    a) . Get Office 365 Home. Get one user e-mail for the Apple & Window networking users that would be a small size OneDrive. A second user e-mail for my main user on all my Windows machines. This choice would give me all the flexible storage I'd ever need. Easy inter-os transfer. The Office apps would be a good bonus. Cost ~$100/year and more complexity.
    '
    b) . Stay with base 5GB OneDrive and add 50 GB iCloud. Would be very simple to use and maintain. Also easy inter-os transfer. Cost: $24/year, no Office and never enough space for optional music files.

    c) 3rd option I am not aware of.

I'm currently leaning towards option b) due to simplicity and cost, but would appreciate other's opinions before deciding.

    Thanks

    Rick

  2. Sign the petition?!

so karim, will we see Nokia act on the results or was the poll just posted for a bit of fun to gauge everyones view on this subject?

i mentioned earlier that Series 60 version 3, feature release 1 has the ability to have the F/W updated by the user so will we see this option included in future handsets? even if only a small number of people wanted to do this by themselves, it would still
    save nokia time and money?

    Hi Rich!

This poll isnt just a bit of fun, I was hoping to stimulate a bit of discussion on the subject. The results from the poll are interesting, it is not the landslide that many people who visit here were expecting. With on %59 of people actively seeking firmware
updates this still leaves a large group of owners who would require some assistance on updating their firmware, with two days to go the results could change either way. And again, this only gauges the opinion of people who visit these discussion boards - there
will be many many Nokia owners who have not read this post.

But, this poll isnt the official Nokia standpoint of firmware installation. The poll and this thread are what you, the users think and feel.

Carry on and make posts here to discuss this, and feel free to make a vote. The poll will close on Friday afternoon. I will collate the results and put them in this thread for further discussion.

    Cheers

    -

    Karim

Thanks for your opinion. It is valued. I hope you will answer a few questions to shed more light on your suggested choice. I'm still leaning towards choice b) for me

Your answer seems to indicate total sync storage capacity is your primary need. How many of the 5 users and possible 5 TB do you actually use? Do you use all those users your self or do they represent others in your home.

OneDrive does not meet my backup needs so I use another provider. I seeded that initial backup of 3 computers with a full 1 TB physical HDD shipped to the provider. Even then it took a very, very, long time to upload the rest using compressed file backup at 5 Mbps. I now have 2 TB in the cloud for backup and even at 100 Mbps down would take a long, long, time to get it all back. Are all your computers Windows 10 FCU and if so what % of your total OneDrive are kept on demand only in the cloud till needed?

Are any computers that are pre FCU or limited storage ala SSD only laptops? For those computer users does having all OneDrive storage being local severely restrict taking advantage of the 1 TB space?

Did the use of the Office apps figure a big part in choosing a) or was it mainly bonus?

What complexities from having multiple users and Office 365 do you encounter? For example do updates to Office and or Windows cause any any problems especially in a multi-user, multi-computer, setup?

    Thanks
