Windows 10: Virus and spyware definitions could be updated on windows defender error code 0x80004004

Dear Sir/Madam




When it try to update the Virus and spyware definitions it fails every time and i get the message couldn't be updated on windows defender error code 0x80004004. Check your internet connection and try again each time i do i still get the same message.

While updating the windows defender definition 1.259.580.0 , it downloaded but while installing it isnt installing it. please help me out of it.

The last update for Windows Defender was August 6, 2015. Further updating results in error code 0x80004004 with message Virus and spyware definitions couldn't be updated. I am running Windows 10 with all current updates installed.

I recently had a problem with my Windows Defender.

I tried to update the definitions on Windows 8.1, error code 0x80004004.

Then I upgraded to W10 and I again tried to update them, error code 0x80004004.

I do have McAfee Security Scan Plus pre-installed on my pc. Could that be influencing it?
