Windows 10: virus scan failed - problem

I honestly need some help because I cant figure out what is wrong.

I cant download anything on Chrome or Edge, as it says Virus Scan Failed. I know they are safe files, that is not the problem. I have seen something about viruses or malware but I dont think *and I hope* it is not the problem here because I have scanned my computer with my antivirus, bitdefender, with windows defender, windows defender in offline mode, and also malwarebytes. I have uninstalled bitdefender because I thought that might be the problem, as a few weeks ago it quarantined a file I was working on in codeblocks, so I thought just uninstall it and see, but still not working. I can give any information that you need but pls if you know what the issue might be, I would love some help because I am a computer science student and really need to use my computer and download files for school. p.s. I dont know if it is relevant but I think that this is happening since the last Windows update, because I had trouble installing it, my computer just said that it had a problem and cancelled the instalation and after it was finally done I didnt notice anything, except that a few days later when I tried to download something it didnt work anymore. I cant go back to the last version so I dont know if there is any way to verify this.

'Virus scan failed' message

Yes, I use Chrome. I've received several emails with Word doc attachments or google docs attached and I get the message "Failed - Virus scan failed"

I tried to go through the steps described by typing in regedit and going through the steps provided but that didn't solve the problem.

If not, suggests deeper problems. To which uninstall option are you referring? (A picture is worth...)

 

Failing hardware? Undetected virus?

It really sounds like a virus running hidden in the background!
Though you've scanned the pc for viruses it's difficult that the antivirus installed finds anything...as the virus has already passed unobserved by the antivirus app.

My suggestion is to put some executable antivirus and antispyware appz. in your flash disk and scan the pc from that.
Use different ones, portable antiviruses etc....here are some suggestions:
